You are going to have a lot of work cut out for you if you intend to warn everyone who is looking to buy a C5
I have a 2001 with 50k on it (second owner I think), Ive had the traction control errors, but read up on them and can take care of it if it pops up. Other than that . . .
I looooooove this car best thing I ever did.
I agree. I bought my '02 last September and I have put 21K miles on its since. It now has 52K (my DD) and the only problem I've had is the antenna. I sold my '88 in June and it had 166K. I had put 88K on it as my DD for 4 years and only spent about $3k the whole time.
These are reliable cars. Yes, there will be the exception but that is an EXCEPTION. I would not hesitate to purchase one with 90-100K from a forum member.
I purchased mine from a fellow Fourm member in Detroit. He had it listed on the Fourm for sale site. I live in Florida but had a company that set up an appointment with the original owner to do an inspection. automobileinspections.com They preformed a very detailed inspection. They sent me a report along with several photos. They found a problem during the inspection and the owner took the car in for repairs. It cost him about $2000.00 for the repairs. The cost of the inspection was $350.00 but after finding the problem I felt it was worth every penny. I also ran a Carfax. Previous owner kept meticulous records and I felt very comfortable about buying the car before actually driving it. I flew to Detroit and drove it home. Used my plates off my previous Vette which I had just sold in order to buy the C5. This is by far the best car I've ever owned. A few minor issues like alot of people but nothing I couldn't fix myself. Good Luck!
I met a guy JUST this morning that flew in from Arizona to buy a Corvette he asked me to go check out for him...I picked him up at the Airport and drove him over to the sellers and dropped him off as it was located 12 miles from me. He had certain things he specifically asked me to look at, but as the car was a 2004 Z-06 with 9k mileage, plus every record of everything ever done to the car it was pretty easy to see the car was fine.. He is out this VERY minute with the seller taking a test drive to verify everything, they may even be done by now..I had to get going, but he told me Thanks and sure seemed happy with the car. If you have a car you need checked out there is usually a Member that will go check it out for you if you'll ask...I took about 30 pictures for him and sent those to him so I think that took his fears off it being damaged when he arrived...
I bought mine off of ebay BUT did not pay for it thru ebay, just called the dealer it was at and drove to get the car (with extended warranty) 300 miles away.
Me personally, I would find my car on the internet but buy it in person. That's what I did. I have been very happy with my car and have drove the crap out of it. (bought March 06 w/ 56k, Sept 07 now has 101,8xxk miles)
I have an 04 with only 15k miles on it and I cant keep it out of the shop. Everything that people have had problems with on this forum has happened to mine. Just do a search on problems with the C5 Corvette and I have had 90% of these problems. I wish I had never seen this Vette of mine. Worst car I have ever owned! Buyer beware!
You want some cheese with all that 'whine'? Deal with it.
