I have a stock 2002 Z06 right now,I'm looking into a '95 ZR-1 also. It'll be interesting to compare to see which car is overall faster.

Don't look at my 1/4 mile times then <g>... I can't get any traction. Jeff ran the same 12.66@111MPH I did in Seattle in his stock '90 at Portland recently.

Greetings, I've owned a 90,91,& two 94 ZR1'S over the last 10 years all great cars, In fact I was so fond of them that I couldnt emagine owning another Vette. Well that is till the Z06 came along. The 01 I recently bought is an absolute blast. Faster more comfortable, handles better just wish It rode a little better. A bit on the harsh side. The ZR1 was the Vette to own in it,s time but I have to say the Z06 is now the way to fly for me. :seeya

I biased towards the ZR-1. You can buy a good '90 for $20k. If you want to go fast you can install the NOS system that is designed specifically for the ZR-1. With nothing more than this system and drag radials my car will go low 11's in the 1/4.
Total cost = $21k
That will get you a super fast car and you still have $35k left in your pocket.

True, but it's much harder to tell someone the ZR1 is a great road race car (which it is - especially with coilovers) because it's hard to correlate that with other tracks and drivers. Of course it's also much harder to launch than the Z06 - which accounts for most of the disparity in track numbers... however, the only Z06's I know the times for up here have done 12.6@112 or so, same speeds Jeff is turning in his car. Anyway, I'm not going to debate which is better - mine is.. until they get a 550HP C6 rolling out for us :)
For top speed go ORR'ing, I might do so next year... getting too friendly with the policeman to try 200MPH on 405 right now :)

A roll race from 50 or 60. It’s bye bye 2002z06 and the zr1 will have higher top speed.
A fellow I worked with had a new 2002z06 and I ran him several times from a roll in my 1991 zr1 back in the day and from 50 on up to 120 I got him each and every time by at least 3 to 5 car lengths

your 2002 z06 would be faster from a dig.

Evan70, that's why when I saw a car modified by Haibeck I jumped all over it. Wouldn't have second thoughts buying a car done by Lingenfelter, Callaway, or Hennessey. Plus there are some really awesome local shops around doing LS engines right. These cars were built with driving in mind and not just sitting pretty.

Interesting - this discussion about what a "Supercar" is and German vs US engineering. Here is my take FWIW. We own 3 cars: (1) '16 Audi SQ5 Black Edition (my DD), (2) '19 Mercedes 300 GLC (wife's DD), and (3) '19 Z06 2LZ, M7 (my 10th Vette). First the German cars - solid engineering and craftsmanship/quality - a cut above so to speak - especially the '16 SQ5, which has given me 23k miles with no problems - gorgeous interior.
My latest Z06, bought exactly like I wanted it at a $11k discount from MSRP, is the last, and most refined of the FE Z06s, incorporating all the various upgrades over the years plus now parts from the '19 ZR1. I believe this latest iteration (also much, much better paint and body fitment) has addressed most of the prior complaints about the C7 Z06, and proper alignment settings (learned painstakingly by some members here) have largely dissipated earlier handling complaints.
Also find it interesting that the '19 ZR1 was just chosen as the Road & Track Magazine "Performance Car of the Year" (PCOTY) over some pretty impressive competition. It, and the million dollar Lambo were the two cars that everyone wanted to drive all the time. Pretty impressive reviews, against incredible competition.
Does this make the ZR1 a "supercar?" I don't know, guess it depends on your definition of that amorphous term. For some, I suppose making a car out of "unobtainable" for 99% of the population is the only measure of a supercar. I know what I think. I just couldn't justify spending the additional $62k over the $77k I spent to get that last bit exclusivity and performance.
The other thing I find interesting here is how some folks toss around the concept that these cars are "affordable new, to almost everyone." I don't think so. Take another look at average salaries average family income and then explain how you think most people have enough disposable income to support the purchase of a $55k and up - way up, limited use toy. Check out how many Americans are living one or two paychecks away from being broke after paying their monthly bills. Just, no.
Because we are fortunate to be able to indulge ourselves should not insulate us from the reality that most people do not have the disposable income to support purchase of a $55k and up two seater toy. Which, in another vein, is why Chevy will not introduce a base C8 for more than the price of a base GS now (IMHO). What I think will be different now, is that the price of entry into the high performance variants of the C8 is going to be much higher than what had been the C7 GS/Z06/ZR1 prices.
