Default Convertible Back Window Falling Out... ideas?

Hey guys,

I have a C5 (2002) convertible and the back window has come apart from the top. I've thought about getting some epoxy and fixing it that way, but was wondering if you guys had any ideas?

Thanks!

Gluing it is about the only alternative other than a complete top replacement. I've heard some Guys say J-B Weld works good. Gorilla Glue may, also, do the trick.

Mine just fell out last week ('01 Black Vert) and after reviewing the above referenced write up I sent for the Rhino glue and will be trying the fix tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens...

Default Rhino Glue

I had the same issue. I just used the Rhino Glue method mentioned above and let me tell you that is some strong stuff. Fixed my rear window.

I also read the thread a couple months back and ordered the Rhino Glue and in about 10 minutes had my top back to factory sealed. Best and only thing to use..and believe me, I use everything from marine sealant to chewing gum.

Well, I used the Rhino glue and it worked real well, easy, too. Hope it lasts...
Some tips: My glass wasn't completely detached (only at the top and sides) but I detached the whole thing which was too easy. I used a couple pillows between the glass and the waterfall to push up the glass. The top was up, but not latched. This made it easy to align it perfectly.
I cleaned the contact areas with a paper towel barely moist with water because it appeared so damn clean already.
Make sure the lighting is good; it's hard to see the clear glue on the glass edge.
I did about 12 to 18 inches at a time and that worked nicely.
Apply a bead of glue to the center of the area that attaches, then press firmly for 30 seconds. If a little glue shows at the edge of top and glass LEAVE IT! I tried to wick it up with a paper towel and smeared it 1/8" onto the window about 3 inches long and it now appears permanent. I'll try to use a razor blade and carefully scrap it off after it sits for a day.
Also check your defroster connections; one of mine was barely attached.
Good luck.
BTW, I called my local Chevy dealer (I've had OK work done by them) and they said they couldn't re-glue and said it would be $2500-$3000 for a new top. So the drinks are on me...

Dang! You're so far away!

Had mine fall out while it was being washed. Did the glue thing and has been holding now for 2 years. I am VERY careful now when I apply pressure washing or drying it.

I've never heard of anyone using JB Weld on the rear window. I have a 2000 Vert. I personally repaired the loose rear window with 3M Window Weld. It's held up now for over 20,000 miles/7 years. I've also heard of guys having success with Rhino Glue. I would think that JB Weld would be way too hard. The 3M product is black, and looks similar to weatherstrip adhesive. I think it stays somewhat pliable. There's currently another thread going on this very subject. OP-As one post stated, search is your friend....

The Rhino Glue method has been posted about on the forum for quite a while and seems to really work well.

Default Another vote for Rhino Glue

Mine back window is still tight and dry going on a year after Rhino Glue. Got a multi pack from Amazon and used the brush applicator on the glass and pillows on the inside.

I did the Rhino glue method, used pillows and balloons to press the window from the inside while it cured. The Rhino glue is just a thin viscosity super glue. This method works for a while but lasted only a couple years. The edges are peeling up, looks horrible now but still doesn't leak. A new top is required to do it right. The OEM glue is a urethane

Default I’ll take a stop gap for now

I also hear people have great success with a 3M product.
