valentine 1 oddity?
i got my brand new Valentine 1 today and mounted it in the vette to take out for a spin. she works great. it's like living in a bubble. every cop within about 200 yds was smoked before they spotted me. not really even fair. down side is i picked up far too many bogus "x" blips but i think there is a way to suppress them.
now the odd thing. i am driving down a parkway and there is a guy in a truck in front of me and as i close on him i get a front arrow and my K band tones. as i get close it goes nuts, and i get a solid tone and full bar. as i pull along side him i get my side arrow and full bar. as i pass him i get the rear arrow and the tone fades so i decide to slow down and sure enough it comes back so i know it's him. we drive along that way for a while and as we pull up to a light i wave at him and we talk about it. i show him my V1 and he has no idea what is going on.
so now i think he has an unlicensed transmitter/jammer or some sort of tracking device that he does not know about.
what do you think?

play with the logic function and you will get a lot less false positives...
.. the weirdest thing that mine does is will report a LIDAR alert when I turn on my windshield wipers and sprayers - but only after I haven't used them for a long time...

I get a false K band around CVS pharmacies from their door openers. As you know, they have built a ton of them here over the last couple years, but my falsing on K is usually only within about 1/2 block or so of one. That's the only place I've noticed. The falsing on X is from businesses, etc and you can turn X band off if you want. Check the OM or go to their site online.Be careful here in Houston. While HPD uses K band guns almost exclusively, Harris county boys use Ka band and it is deadly if you're not careful. Ka has fairly low power output so you have much less warning time. Bottom line on Ka: if you get a warning, be careful. It's the real deal and he's usually pretty close to you too.
BTW, speaking of HPD, the traffic guys (in the slick tops mostly) use Laser. The V1, like most every brand out there is pretty much useless against laser. Check into a Laser Shifter from Escort or (better yet) a Blinder M40 extreme for laser. They work.

Go here to learn how to turn off X band and to program your V1.

The K band you received could be from a cop running in a stealthy ghost car with hidden sirens or it could be somebody using a crappy radar detector like a Cobra, RMR, or Uniden. These radar detectors have very little detection range and they spew electronic interference that doesn't affect cop radar guns but it will set off your detector on K or Ka band.
The good thing about the Valentine One is that the arrows will let you know when you pass the car with the Cobra or RMR. Next time it happens, check the windshield or visor of the offending car and you will see a crappy detector 99% of the time.
Go to these links to learn some good information about radar detectors interfering with each other.

Congratulation on owning the Valentine One which is still #1 after the latest independent radar/laser detector test.

Keep your V1 in Logic mode and it is pretty good at weeding out the false positives. You'll still get them, but I find it a lot better than some other detectors I've used.
No idea wat is doing it.

Think of it as filling a glass with water. The radar detector fills the glass with radar waves and when one distant new wave is collected the glass overflows and the alarm sounds...
Cheaper detectors leak... They are not VG-2 invisible...
Because they leak, strong detectors like the V-1 detect the leakage and send an alert the same way they do with a weak signal from a very distant police radar unit.
If you are alerting around another car.. you can bet they have "cheap" radar detector in their car.
