Just purchased my new to me 1999 C5 convertible today. Only has 28,000 miles on it. I got it gor 24K plus the taxes.
Only question I have is when coming to a stop and putting the manual trans into first gear it sometimes doesn't fully ingage and when I think its in gear and try to take off it grinds. I then wait till the RPM's drop and then I nudge it a little and then it pops into first gear and all in normal. This only happens sporadically. Is this user error? or is it something else?
Another is the car at times want to go from 1st to 4th gear?
user error for the grinding gears, it's only gone into the gate for that gear - but not the gear itself. you should be able to feel two distinct pressure points or notches as it goes through each gate into gear. also don't try to put it in gear until you have come close to a complete stop.
the 1st to 4th is CAGS (computer aided gear selection) which is put in place for a fuel saving measure. certain criteria need to be met for engine temperature, throttle position and vehicle speed for that to kick in. you can disable that with a simple plug on the trans (which I actuall have one for sale if youre interested) or get it tuned out, the tuning will be considerably more expensive.

Happened to me when I first got my '03. Took about a day before getting used to it. But I hate the CAGS. Do yourself a favour and get the CAGS eliminator.

I sure hope I get the hang of it soon. I do come to a complete stop and then shift into first. It feels as if its all the way forward but I guess I'm not pushing it hard enough. very embarassing at the red lights Feels like I'm learning to grive a manual all over again!
Are there any Vette clubs in the Inland Empire in SO CA? As I would like to get more info on vettes and also would like to hear others with modified exhaust to see wich set I would liketo buy.

take advice from the peanut gallery lightly, there is a lot of bad info out there that can lead you down a spiraling path of bad mods. do research on what the cost is, what the perf gains will be, and what the quality of the product is before jumping into anything.
not trying to shoot you down right from the beginning, just saying be careful..
... and my advice would be to ignore cat-back exhaust systems because all they deliver is noise - save money for a LT header/cat/x-pipe setup that will get you more volume and HP/TQ gains...
