Some of you may have read my last post about the headlight problem, while I was at the chevy dealership getting that checked out they said that I needed to replace the axle shaft oil seal r&r 97-04 and the skip shift solenoid because they were both leaking which both together costs right at $600, has anyone had any experience with this bc I have a gm certified mechanic that I work with at a ford dealership who I think should be able to fix the problem if I buy the parts.
I'm not sure what they meant by your skip shift solenoid is leaking. From my understanding the skip shift solenoid can be defeated by installing the CAGS switch. Did they mean to say your tranny was leaking?
As far as the axle leak goes, there is a TSB on it. Do search on differential fluid and you'll have a lot of reading to do. Takes about 2-2.5 hours to correct. You may want to get up under there or ask you GM mechanic friend about it first though...to see if it's really leaking. They may just be trying to lighten your wallet a bit. Have you noticed any drip marks under the differential? When you read up after you do the search, some have commented that it was overfilled at the factory and have opened the fill plug only to have some come out. The level should be at the bottom of the fill hole.
