Pinging

FIRST OF ALL I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I AM MECHANICALLY CHALLENGED. Having said that. I have noticed a pinging type noise at start up. Last night by the time we got home, and it was only about a 5 mile drive, it had stopped. Suggestions?

what year is ur car? bad gas, piston slap, has it ever done it before? check your oil?

You said it was at start up; is it "pinging" while its idling? Clutch? Does the sound occur only when accelerating or all the time?

If you haven't had your car long and just noticed it, my guess would be piston slap. Very common on GM cars.

it is a 2003. I can only get 91% where I live. Automatic. Only noticed it the last couple of times at start up. Just had oil changed about 3 months ago and only have about 2500 miles on it since then. Thanks for the responses. Any cure for "piston slap"?
