Default console lid latch broken

Anybody ever have this? What do you do to fix it? Mine wont close...it looks like the latch is closed without the striker portion from the top half actually being in there. Is there a fix for it?

Sounds like the latch is stuck in the closed position. I took mine apart and found that I could gently pry the latch open with a screwdriver and then I oiled the latch. Now it works better than it ever did. I doubt if its broke. Unscrew the hinges from the console and lift the entire assembly off so you can look at it from the bottom side on your workbench and you'll see what I mean.

This is also a could opportunity to lube up the hinges so that they function properly.

The console has a funny closing action on these cars and sometimes if someone who doesn't watch what they are doing closes it, the lower part of the latch will get broken and I assume the top latch could get messed up too. I posted over in parts for sale and got a replacement bottom part for very little from another forum member. Good luck!

Can't tell you how to fix it, but I can tell you don't try to force it open.

Don't ask me how I know.
