Why is it that nearly every time I take the Z out for a cruise, some idiot wants to race? Just tonight I'm stopped at a red light and some moron in a 4 door Impala SS starts doing a burnout right next to me while blasting his horn. I just looked over and rolled up my window.
Just rev it up, ask if they are ready, watch the light and sit and enjoy the car take off.....and hopefully there is a LEO around to give him a date.....in court

Thats what I do. I get it all the time. I rev my engine, watch the light turn green....and laugh because the other guy just made an a$$ out of themselves. It seems to make them more upset. Besides..you own a corvette, you have nothing to prove. Unless you just feel like giving that other person a spanking for fun
Oddly enough, I don't get much of it. I often see someone trying to weave up through traffic to catch me so they can show we their stuff. Once they catch up, I think they reconsider when they see the Z06 badge. At least most young kids know what it means.
Dont get bent out of shape. You may be irritated, but it is actually pretty complimentary that these guys want to run you. As a previous owner of other fast cars I can tell you that everyone out there aspires to outrun a vette, ESPECIALLY a Z06.
I dont know how many of you read other forums but 90% of the american public believe that Z06's are driven by old guys who cant drive a lick, thus they are regularly beaten on the street by inferior cars (i.e. mustangs, camaro's, ricers, etc.). These guys know the Z06 is a better, faster car but because of that stereotype, everyone thinks they have a shot against one and can then go brag to their friends that they just "smoked a Z06".
Now I'm not telling you to go ahead and race these guys...street racing is stupid and illegal. But dont induce the guy by revving up your motor or giving him the "go" signal and then just sitting there when he takes off, that really doesn't make you any better than the guy who was wanting to race. Just tell him you dont street race, give him a thumbs up and tell him nice car (whether it is or isn't). You will probably get a very complimentary reaction from him...I know I do.

I don't street race at all, but I don't think that there is anything wrong with revving the engine at someone. If they are stupid enough to take the bait and floor it then thats there fault. but thats just my $.02
I really hope I never have to deal with these kinds of people. I know I will though... As a early 20's male I have NO room in my budget to do anything illegal with my Z06!!! Said street racers can spend there money on tickets and on the extra gas they are using revving at us!!!
I will spend my money and time on my wife and the Z!!!!
I plan to do what I have always done. Wave and get to where I am going!!!

yeah, make sure to remember that when a guy in a Mustang Cobra rolls up next to you and revs....
you're in the military, so THANK YOU for your service. i have been out of the Marines for about a year, so i know how it goes. practice the self-discipline you have and you will be fine, because we both know how it goes when you get in trouble "out in town" -- you get it from both ends!
Same thing happened to me last night. Some meathead in a yellow 6000lb GTO did a really weak brake torque next to me and then proceeded to run a red light to get away from me. Where are the cops when stuff like that happens?

I will try to keep my cool!!!! As for trouble on both ends, you are right. A guy in my unit seemed to attract attention outside of work... It didn't take long before he was in more trouble at work...
I suppose I will have to bring my wife everywhere!!! She normally keeps me in line, or at least distracts me from outside influences!!!

Unless he's worth it, I will literally laugh in their face. Some guy in a beat up Civic revved at me with his girl in the car and was like "I'LL RUN YOU FOR $10!!!!!" And his girl was smiling. My girl turned to me and literallly burst out laughing and turned around and was laughing in his face. I could tell he was getting pissed, because his girl was looking embarassed now. I screamed, "Make it $300 to pay for the ticket and the gas I'm wasting on you and sure!"
He just eased on it looking like he couldn't get low enough in his seat while I was laughing. I just turned "Disturbed" back up and started rockin' out again

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Very Cool!!! Its one thing to blow someone off but to belittle the person straight to their face, that takes a little more effort but the effects are classic!!! I'm sure the Disturbed added to the thrashing!!!!
When I had my first car, an 87 Buick Lesabre, and saw a nice car like a Vette, or anything that sounded dangerous, I'd pull up to them knowing that I would loose, but still wanted to get that race and the rush. I hated the a$$holes that would just give me that look like "please kid, I'm richer, older, and I got a faster car". Later I told my friends that I raced some muscle car from light to light and I lost. It didn't really matter to me whether I lost or one, it was the fun factor.
I'm the same way now, although I'm on the other side now and I still don't care whether I lose or win a run, because there is always someone faster than you. Laughing in people's faces because they admire your car is just adding to the common stereotype of Vette drivers, that we're stuck up. I know those people are out there (don't wave back) , but on the same note, there are even more that are very cool and don't abuse the fact that they drive a Vette. Back in the muscle-car days, it was a lot friendlier. Why isn't it anymore?
