Default Low Oil Warning ?

I Was Running Low On Fuel And The Reserve Fuel Warning Came On . Along With It Came A Low Oil Warning And They Kept Alternating From One To Another. I Filled Up With Gas And The Reserve Fuel Warning Went Out But The Low Oil Warning Stayed On. I Hit The Reset Button And The Low Oil Warning Went Out And Did Not Come Back On. Oil On Dip Stick Was About Half Way Between The 2 Dots . I Don't Think I Was More The A 1/2 Quart Low. Just Wondering If Anyone Else Has Had This Experience. I Checked Oil Life Remaining And It Read 27 % . I Will Change Oil Tomorrow Just To Be Safe.

If you got that low oil message and were down 1/2 quart then you are getting acurate info from the DIC. That is pretty much normal for alot of C5's. Just put in the 1/2 quart and go until you get down to 5 to 15% oil life left. Most oil change places will add oil for free between changes as part of their service!

Sounds normal to have to add a little oil between changes. With the long life of the synthetic, even if the engine is burning only a tiny amount of oil, it will add up eventually.

Sounds normal to me, its typical to burn a little oil especially when you are almost 3/4 into your oil change interval. It will consume more oil the harder you drive it. I found that i need to add about a half a quart at about 5000 miles... thats about when I need to change the oil so I just do it anyway. I also found that if I keep the RPMs under 3k it burns less over time... but what fun is it to keep your C5 under 3k RPMs

Not a good idea to let your fuel run that low either. Makes your fuel pump work harder. You'll be spending the same amount of money if you fill up at half a tank, twice as much.

Never had my low oil warning come on unless the level was right at a quart low. Guess some may be more sensitive than others.

Ok, I added the oil, checked the dipstick but the warning still comes on. How do you reset it?

Are you sure its full, did you pull the key from the ignition and then restart it?

The oil lamp should go off by itself if you are not short oil.

Once when I was changing oil (adding oil), I checked the low oil warining. On my 1998, it comes on at one quart low.

Sorry, i'm new to the C5, i've never heard this before. I know running the pump dry is bad, but how does a low tank make the fuel pump work harder?

My low oil level light comes on several times each time I drive my '01 Vert....
My sensor is bad
I am replacing it at my next oil change.

the part GM # 1260 3782 is about $20 at the dealer.
it is at the back ,bottom, passenger side of the oil pan. ( light blue plastic plug cover over a tan colored plastic hex body.
It needs a large 1 1/8"socket (28mm?) to remove.
The correct torque for re-installation is 115 in-pounds.
The connector has a locking tab which will need a thin flat screwdriver to release because of limited access to the locking tab.
