The drivers mirror on my '01 Vert seems to have a burned, fogged area covering about half of the center. Is it the heating element gone bad? How do I change it out? Can I replace just the glass?
Thanks.
Yes, the glass is available and easy to replace. Push one side in as far as it will rotate then pull the other edge toward you. (Wear gloves for safety.) Remove the 2 wires and replace the glass. You will see how it goes after removing it. 5 minute job. Last one I did, the glass was about $45 at the dealer. Don't know where else you can get it. Maybe some of the forum vendors? Good luck
I have a question for you though...what caused it to burn in the first place? Are you driving around with the defroster running all the time? That will supposedly turn on the heating element in there. If that mirror is burned, the heater burned it which can only happen if its running all the time.

I'm not sure what caused the burn/fog. That's what I was hoping someone could help me with. I've owned the car for 1-1/2 years and it was like this when I bought it (yes, I'm embarrassed I haven't fixed it yet...). I don't drive with the defroster on for more than a minute or two, but i can't speak for the original owner.
Another question: Are the side mirrors electrochromatic? They seem dimmed at night.
Thanks
Mine has the same thing , not sure what its from but I had it on dim for about 2 years before I punched the button on the rear view mirror and boy could I see alot better out both of them now .......

Something like such ,I have tint and when the lite is on in the middle of the rearview mirror , the rearview and the drivers side mirror dim. Turn it off and they are brighter, It took me a while to figure that out , and it makes a big difference.....
My '99 does not have the electrochromic mirrors, although when I got numerous questionaires from Chevrolet regarding the car, I wrote back suggesting they use the mirror from the Olds Aurora in the Corvettes because we needed it badly. Maybe they put them in on the '01's.. I really don't know. In my '07, the overhead mirror and the driver's side are electrochromic but not the passenger side.
