Default Side View Mirrors

Do the side view mirrors on a 2000 C5 fold toward the car's body? The stock mirrors are a 2-piece design with a horizontal split between the pieces. But the manual doesn't mention a fold-in feature, and I would rather not break one by trying it without asking!

If you move it, you chance it to break. I read a post on here some time ago about a guy that was in the garage. He heard a pop and walked around the car and it was broke, with no one touching it.

Yes, they do "fold-in", either direction, forward or backwards. I like to "fold" them forwards when I wash the car, as they seem to drain better.

So apparently the mirrors are foldable, except that they may be fragile according to Randy. Should I try it? Hmmm......

The mirrors will fold either direction. I noticed on the Bowling Green tour that the mirrors were folder forward on the assembly line.
HOWEVER, as has been noted, there is a strong spring in the mirrors, and a weak retaining clip that tends to pop off without warning.
There is no easy fix. Some have posted repair methods, but some have felt it is better to purchase (and paint) new mirrors.

I have broke both sides on my 97 Vette, although they are supposed to fold both ways they don't like being folded due to the very strong spring that is in there and the weak clip and ali post it sits on. The post has a small groove and the clip will pop off evetually.

I got 2 replacement mirrors one was black and the other red. I spray then wih rattle cans. Primmer colour and lacquer you can't tell them from the originals.

I did do the repairs on the original mirrors but they don't last cutting the spring down smaller helps and then when it's all assemble put araldite glue on the top to hold the clip on.

You can always glue the mirror in a fixed position if the clip keeps poping off! I did that with one of my original ones. Here is the howto for repairing your mirror

http://www.97vette.com/howto/mirror/index.html

I think it's down to poor design by GM that spring is way too strong for what it doing! You think an up market car like the Corevtte would have electric fold in miirors!

Due to the narrower roads we have and the big f--k off trucks it not uncommon to have your mirror samshed off if you leave your car in the street on a busy town road in the UK!

I have to fold at least one mirrors in on my car or it will not go through the garage door. That's another thing why are they so freaking big!

Figure this the 99 Z28 is 1" wider than a C5 Corvette but that went through my garage door no problem

Unless you have to don't fold your mirrors they will break eventually
