Default Double image HUD

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...1/MVC-018S.jpg

Help!! I had my windshield replaced yesterday and now my HUD is showing a double image. The picture I took shows it to be worse than it really is but it seems to have an image just above the correct one. Hopefully I have the image attached correctly. Is this due to a defective windshield, wrong windshield or did they mess with the HUD during installation? They are ordering a new windshield to replace this one because they are not sure what caused the problem. Any ideas?

It appears to me that it's just out of focus. I don't have hud, but there is an adjustment on it.

Yes, the glass in the lower right will have 'HUD' (at least mine does) on it, the picture looks over saturated have you turned the brightness down?

I have heard that if you have the wrong windshield, you might get blurry, double images of your HUD. Check the lower corner on the passenger side. You should have a label or etching that looks like this:

43R-009047
SHADED HUD
SOLAR RAY

Or at least, that is what is on my windshield.

There is no focus adjustment, only up and down. Maybe during the windshield install they got something on the HUD projection surface. You can clean it the same as you would glass (windex or similar).

Or it could be the windshield itself.

According to the owners manual for my 02 on page 2-118 it states: "Keep in mind that your windshield is part of the HUD system. If you ever have to have your windshield replaced, be sure to get one that is designed for HUD or your HUD image may look blurred and out of focus".

I just went in the garage to check the HUD I installed yesterday. I haven't even driven the car yet. I do know I don't have a HUD windshield. After checking mine, it is clear in the dark garage. WHEW...... I suggest cleaning the HUD & windshield good. They may have gotten a film on one or the either.

Not having HUD glass has nothing to do with that. I added HUD and dont have HUD glass. I have zero problems at all. Take the top dash off and see if there is a problem with the projector.

Plenty of people have either replaced their windshield with a non-hud one, or added hud without the "right" windshield and have been ok. But why risk it? I'd check that for starters.

Oh but it does. You got lucky. Some non HUD windshields work just fine, others don't. The windshields are checked by machine to determine the reflective properties and only those that pass the specs are installed in HUD equipped vehicles.

In order to ensure that you have a clear and focused HUD it should have the "shaded HUD" description in the lower corner of the windshield on the passengers side. If it doesn't it's a crap shoot. Might work just fine or it might be out of focus. Why take the chance?

Default Thank You

Thanks everyone for all the replies. When I get home this evening I will check the window. They seem to think there is an issue with the windshield and have ordered another one. They also told me if they do not put one in with the HUD option it will not display at all. I'll keep you posted on this one. But the new replacement will not be done for a couple weeks. Seems the stealership in town or the glass installer does not stock the windshield seal and it takes 2 weeks to get them in. Anyway I will still be in Eureka Springs this weekend.
