Ok I am new having just picked up my FRC. I know there is that 1 to 3 shift tghing, I did experience that a few times.
But the real problem is that several times when I think I am in first gear and go to start up I find I am in third gear. I make an effort to get it into first and many times it is in third. Is this something caused by that 1 to 3 shift thing.

And, how do I disconnect the 1 to 3 thing?
If you mean the cags, you need a cags disconnect. About $15 and money well spent. Once it's in the air, a 5 second job.
And it's 1 to 4.
It's not going to magically change gears by itself overnight from 3rd to 1st. Operator error.

"Rangers" tip about using the heal of your hand (away) and your palm/fingers NO thumb (toward) has made shifting with the stock **** much more accurate! Makes sense when you consider the ****'s shape...
Ok,
I did some surfing and read the instructions on how to install the cags eliminator. Two questions, One if you just unplug the connector will it accomplish the same thing. I know it will throw a code. And secondly if I install an aftermarket shifter is it a moot point?
And speaking of shifters I see a lot of reference to Hurst shifters. Is there any other manufacturers of aftermarket shifter I should look at.
I never thought Hurst was that great. I had a MGW shifter on my T56 in a Cobra and it was great. But I can't find any reference of a MGW for a Corvette.
Search the forum for a thread about the C6 shifter. The C6 shifter is a direct bolt in, looks better, feels better, slightly shorter throws, and is not expensive. I had a problem with not getting all the way into first and it grinding and kicking out when I first got the car. I have never done it agian after installing the C6 shifter.

The shifter, stock or aftermarket, has no effect on the CAGS system whatsoever.
Ok, got my CAG's eliminator installed. Things are good. Except I am finding it difficult at times to get it into first gear. I end up starting in third. This has been an ongoing problem its not associated with the new installation of the eliminator.
Is there some adjustment that can be made or would a new shifter help. I have seen references on this forum saying that a zo6 shifter is an improvement. Any suggestions?
