Funny observation
I use to own a 04 GTO and I am a member on the LS1GTO.com board and I still troll around over there in the kill section. I just think it's funny how the guys in the kill section love to bash the C5 whenever they get the chance to post about how they beat one and how bad the C5 driver must feel about losing to a GTO. I always politely remind them that mod for mod the C5 will always be the faster car especially when you take into account how much better the C5 handles. I will say though that my GTO was faster than my C5 but then again the GTO was not stock either and I would never go back. I get twice the attention in the Vette. Hummm maybe that's because it looks twice as good and the best part is the roof comes off

I was beat by a GTO once, when all I had was intake and exhaust, but it wasnt by much. His car was obnoxiously loud but sounded like a true muscle car. Now, I would gladly race again if had the chance and I assure you it would be a diferent outcome

Mine was loud to with the LT's and Borla cat-back it sounded like a stock car a WOT. I do kinda miss that. I will admit it was fun to hand someone their butt with the car and leaving them scratching their head trying to figure out what the hell kinda car was that??

Actually, the GTO is the Haden from Australia, with minor changes to get the GTO nose if I remember correctly. Also they are using the same engine that is in the C6 not the C5. So I would expect that they would beat a stock C5 or at least give one a good race.

The 04 GTO has a LS1 and the 05/06 came with the LS2. I most cases a LS2 GTO vs a C5 will be almost even because of the weight advantage of the C5 but as expected on the GTO forum the Vette never wins.

The GTO looks like a generic Pontiac. While the Corvette looks like, well... a Corvette. I'm sure the GTO is a nice vehicle but if I didn't want the looks of the Corvette then I would have gotten something a bit more on the luxury side rather then a GTO. That's just what I want though. But for the people who want a powerful generic Pontiac then I hope the GTO is serving you well. Anyone should respect the car for what it is and it's cool that it has Australian roots since they always have cool cars too.
