Default Identifying Specific year C5s

My dad loves to show off his auto knowledge by Identifyng the year/make/model of a car within just a few seconds of seeing it drive by.

I'd love to do the same with the C5 but I can only tell what years it's NOT.

Are there any distinquishing exterior features that seperate the years?

It seems like there are few, if any, obvious exterior distinctions. Correct??

It also looks like there were few other improvements after the 2001 model. Does that mean I should be looking for an 01-04 car? Is the oil consumption issue on the 2001 cars common to all of them?

Still shopping for the right car.

The last C5 with a passenger door key entry is the 1999. 2000 and newer only have it on the driver side.

Correct

The more significant modifications from 2001 are LS6 block (but still LS1 engine) LS6 intake manifold, better cam grind (slightly more power over 97-00) to name a few. 2001's were subject to the oil issues, but not all of them.

But the layperson cannot see any difference between a 1997 and a 2004.

97-99 had those beautiful wagon wheels...
97-00 had no polished exhaust tips.
00 had thinner 5-spoke rear wheels

From the factory, year specific:

1999 FRC - Wagon wheels, passenger door lock
2000 FRC - Thin spokes, no passenger door key

i've changed the exhaust emblems wheels added hud, and key hold covers the only way you can tell is if you knew what artic white looked like and the years it was made. None of this was on purpose, just on my journey to tastefully modding the exterior
