I'm putting my 2002 Coupe away for the winter for the first time due to upcoming knee replacement surgery. What are the key things to do in preparation? Is it better to connect a trickle charger or pull the battery. If I pull the battery, how much hassle is it in spring to reset things. Any problem with the tires sitting in one spot for 6 months?
Any tips will be appreciated.
Pull the battery! I also put the car up on blocks and remove the tires for that reason. If you dont want to take off the tires, inflate them to the higest recommneded pressure. I also throw mositure packs inside to prevent mildew. Then finally throw the cover on it. Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to Pm me Ive been winterizing cars whether vettes or other rwd cars for years. Goodluck
This is what I do. Doesn't mean it's right but it's work's for year after year with no issues
Wash and clean the vehicle, a fresh coat of wax won't hurt it, fill your gas tank and make sure to add some fuel stabilizer, pump your tires up to max pressure 45 lb to 50 lb I places some old pieces of carpeting under each tire.
I first stuff with old towel then wrap the tips of my exhausts with plastic bags keeping every thing tight ( keeps rodents out ) I slightly crack the window so not to cause pressure all winter on the rubber molding, I do leave my battery connected all winter to my battery tender. Don't bother starting the vehicle for if it doesn't warm up complete the moister that you would build is a lot worse then not starting the vehicle at all. A nice car cover, and say good night till spring
I also do what is listed and I put moth ***** and Irish Spring soap in the engine compartment, interior and trunk. Deltron who makes the Battery Tender makes a cigarette lighter adapter that plugs into your lighter port. I also crack a window and route the cord through the opening. No rodents and it starts right up in the spring.
Paul I use bounse dryer sheets instead of moth *****. I also ball up alum. foil and put in ends of exhaust tips. release locks on your roof also and I place a sticky trap in each foot well area.

Here is what I do when I put mine away for the winter:
* I use a car cover so I make sure the car is very clean.
* Fill tank up with gas and add a bottle of Sta-Bil to keep the gas fresh.
* Change the oil and filter.
* Put carpet squares under each tire to keep them off the cement.
* I usually add a couple of pounds of air pressure over what I normally run in the tires.
* Connect a Battery Tender Plus to the battery - I do not remove the battery from the car.
Some people put things like moisture absorbing packets in the interior and mothballs under the hood and inside the car (on a plate or bowl).
