Default Wheel/Tire Size...

I know this topic has been discussed to death , but i cannot find a good thread regarding my specific question. Also, most shops that i've called regarding wheel/tire sizes for the C5 Z06 seem like they are not providing me with the info i want/need... (most assume their info).

I hope this thread doesn't get deleted , but assuming i have the correct info below for stock C5 Z06 wheel/tire sizes:

Front
Wheel: 17 in x 9.5 in
Tire: Original Equipment Front: 265/40-17

Rear
Wheel: 18 in x 10.5 in
Tire: Original Equipment Rear: 295/35-18

Let's say i keep the stock wheels, (i'm in the market for new tires, i need them real soon...) Which would be the widest tire i can fit for both front and rear wheels without spacers/modifying wheel wells? (Again, i am keeping the stock wheels) I greatly appreciate any input. Car will not be dropped!!!

Please also understand that i am very **** when it comes to my car and i only like to install stuff that will serve a purpose and not just because "Joe said so". You guys are very knowledgeable thats why i come to you...

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

315/35 is taller than stock.

315 X .35 is more than 295 X .35

315 and 295 are tread widths in mm.

the aspect ratio of 35 means the sidewall is 35% of the tread width.

if you want the same height as you get wider, the aspect ratio needs to get smaller.

same thing if you get bigger diameter rims. you have to shrink the sidewall to maintain the same overall height.

And, yes, they do make 315/35s and 315/30s. I would get a 305 though.

I run 295/40/17 on the front and 315/35/18 on the rear on stock Z06 wheels on my 01Z. These are Kumho V710 race tires that are a bit wider usually than the same measurement of street tires. I have no rubbing and no spacers. YMMV.

Why would you recommend a 305, you mean 305/35 or 305/30...?

Do you have any pictures of your car? I'm curious about how it looks with such sizes...

Try this wheel and Tire calculator when considering new tire sizes. Input the tire size you have now, and the size you want to go to and it will tell you all the details comparing both.

305 fits the 10.5 rim better than a 315. A lot of people use 315s but that doesn't make it ideal. It's a little too wide, IMO. For a long time, though, it was the only option bigger than 295....

305/35

look at what the tire manufacturer specifies for the acceptable rim width for the specific tire you are considering running. you will eventually get to a point that the tire is too wide for the rim and won't hold proper shape for full contact patch any more. also make sure that you stay somewhat close to the stock diameter stagger from front to back so you don't freak out TCS/AH/ABS...

I prefer shorter sidewalls as Im constantly hitting twisties and corners very hard on the street. I do not like my 275-40-17's up front, but the Nitto track tires I run on the street don't come in a 265-40-17. altho I considered running a 255-40 size but went a little taller vs shorter which I shouldn't have done. The sidewall is too tall on them for really fast hard cornering.
