I have a 1998 manual vette and I am going to change the tranny fluid next weekend but I have a question first.
I went to several places to find the correct fluid but I wanted to check with the experts here first.
I bought Pennzoil automatic transmission fluid which states "For use in vehicles previously servicable by Dexron III/Mercon brands. I was trying to find a fluid that specified Dexron III only but I cannot. The "mercon" word is what is making me nervous.
Is this a safe fluid to put in my car?
Thanks in advance for not making me feel like an idiot. I am really getting into working on my vette myself. So far, I have change the oil and filter/installed an air-bag cutoff switch/fixed my rocking seat problem, and other minor issues.....All thanks to the folks on the forum!
Yes,IMO it is, but your going to get posts telling you to use a synthetic brand. Always remember this term "Meets or exceeds GM Specifications" when searching for a replacement fluid.
