You can check in the DIY sticky post for instructions on how to do a fix yourself. I also think that there is someone who will do the fix for you if you send him the mirror. Again, do a search to find out who it is. It may be easier to have him do the fix for you.
No easy fix. There is a very strong spring in the mirror, and a weak retaining clip that tends to pop off. Once it is off, you have to take the mirror apart and modify the post with a retaining pin or some other method to retain the spring. The wires to the mirror also run through the center of the post, so it is a real pain to fix.
I had the exact same thing happen to my driver's side mirror. I used the guy that rwlC5 mentioned in his post. If I remember correctly the name was Ed Swaneck. Ed did a great job on my mirror and really it only cost me around $75 and the time it took to get the mirror on and off the car. I can't find his contact info, but I'll keep looking and pass it on when I find it.
Just found this in the tech section...it's the guy I was talking about. It's been over two years since he fixed mine so I have no clue if he is still doing this work. Worth a shot though. Hope it helps.
