In person detailed inspection. Take it to a shop and get it on a lift to check underneath. I also suggest taking a knowledgeable friend. Sometimes a 2nd set of eyes that are not emotionally attached to the deal can help out.

My only problem is the owner has an expired plate and no insurance. Says I can take it for a run around the neighbourhood this way with him in it. will have to have it towed to a dealer for inspection. I could do that if I really like the car when I see it
We all trying to help you here and follow the rules of the forum...some members like to give new guys a little ribbing...it's a right of passage...
Are there any Corvette clubs in your area that someone might be able to go to the car saving you the money for towing? If I were an owner and had no insurance/registration on the car, I'd be very hesitant about having it towed somewhere for an inspection. Who would be responsible for any incurred damage?
Some car inspection services will meet you where ever the car is and inspect it for a reasonable fee.
Maybe some local Corvette owners would have someone in mind who's considered the resident Corvette guru?
