I would suggest you try to find something local or at least within a couple hundred miles. C5s arent exactly RARE! and I see plenty of really nice ones in the 15-16K range with no problems to fix! Just my 0.02
Wherever you are buying it in FL you might want to find a local vette shop if you can and have them check it out. It would be worth the minor expense probably, make sure you aren't really getting a cheap lemon. If you are going to be near Tampa you might want to call RevXtreme, I think I remember seeing them post somewhere that they would inspect a vette for free ... but don't quote me on that.
Hey guys everything so far is good the carfax is clean i called the dealer and got all the service records for the first 58,000 miles everything is good the clutch and flywheel have been changed at 55,000 everything he told me he is up front about. I will see it thursday how do i check the DIC for codes
Sounds to me like it has been run pretty hard, clutch, flywheel, grinding gears. I would want a very good mechanic that knows vettes to check out the engine and everything else.
There are a lot of clean vettes out there that you might not have to spend $5-10K fixing up. Where there's smoke there's usually some fire. Don't get burned.
It was only grinding in fourth high rpm shifting which he admitted to saying it wasnt pushed often but on occasion. He said its completely gone now. What should i try to look for and feel when looking at the car. Again does anyone know how to check for the codes in the DIC
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the "RESET" button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold "OPTIONS"
4) While holding "OPTIONS", press "FUEL" four times within a 10-second period.
P.S. If you have gear wear or damage, it doesn't go away just because it's quieter with some new
fluid. Well, maybe the sound of gears would go away if you put in fluid when it had little or not enough.
Look at the tech "sticky" section at the top of the C5 Tech section. There are many, many, problems you can have, especially it the car hasn't been maintained properly. And you are talking to only one of the owners it sounds like.
