I dont really think this topic is about which car is better/faster etc.... its about being given a nice opportunity and making an educated choice. If you are given the chance to purchase a 12K mile 2003 Cobra convertable for $12,000 then you would be a fool not to purchase it. If that means selling your Z06 then do it, even if you take a $3-4K loss on your Z from what you paid you are basically buying that Cobra for $12-14K under market value...... For all of you math challenged here that is a $9-10K profit

The original poster mentioned some CC debt and that he would eventually like to get another vette, this is a great opportunity for him to get back on his feet and still have a very nice car while he does it.

Take the deal, get back out of debt and then purchase another vette or hang on to the Cobra..... either way you are really coming out a winner.

Well my dad and I had a talk last night and I told him that I would be picking up his cobra. He really doesnt wanna let it go but hey it will still be in the family. And ive learned the hard way, from my previous car before the vette i had a gt mustang and got a handful of tickets, not to take these cars for granted. Ive gotten two tickets in my vette and neither one was for speeding, tint and no front plate. So i will be out of a vette for a while but trust me when I say I will be back. Thanks for all the input and yes I know the vette is a much better car than the cobra but this is a steal for me.

It sounds to me like you are trying to set your financial house in order. Your dad is offering to help by giving you a deal so you can still have a performance car Vs an econobox.

Neither car is going to maintain its value that well. For the foreseeable future the value of both of these cars will will trend downward. As for collectibles their value will not be realized for many years (at least 20 years from now) yet and you don't know whether either one will be a collectible. I sort of doubt any car of this era will be very collectible except for museum pieces as we will be off from an oil economy by the time they get old enough to be collectible. Do you want a collector car that has to be pushed on and off the auction block because there is no gasoline to put in its tank?

Do the right things financially and get a brand new Vette when you can afford one.

Bill

It's a tough call, although contrary to what alot of people here think, a 03/04 Cobra isn't as much of a downgrade as they'd like to think. I have had both and can speak from experience. As far as resale goes, there is no hotter car than a 03/04 Cobra right now in terms of holding value. The 03 Z06 was a mid 50 thousand dollar car and a nice low mileage stock one can be had for low 30s... A 03 Cobra coupe was low 30s when it came out and the nice ones are still selling for mid to high 20s.

The Vette is a sportcar, and the Cobra is more of a muscle car, but IMHO, the only place the Vette has a huge advantage over the Cobra is braking.

downgrade all day long. A 12k 03 Cobra, man that a great deal and with some mods can be a killer.

Sambandit I wish I could have found a Z like yours but I eventually became impatient after waiting 8 months. I will be in a Z again and I know it is a downgrade and I lnow that right now the Cobra is a very desirable car for many mustang enthusiasts.
