Default special windshield for hud? Need replacement

I took a big rock in the windshield of my Z16 on a trip this weekend. I want to make sure the insurance company gets proper replacement. Since I have a HUD do I need a special windshield vs those who have no HUD??

A HUD vehicle does have a certain windshield, but... you do NOT need the special windshield to actually use a HUD.

Harder and more expensive than just the HUD, since most all vettes in the 2000's have them, is the thinner Z06 glass, the 4.8 MM version with HUD (all Z06's except the '01 which had no HUD).

I had a similar occurance 2 weeks ago. I opted to have it repaired first to give me a little time, but I have a question.

Whats that weight difference between the 2 windshields? The Z is my daily and I am not really concerned with saving weight at the trac. If the HUD will work on the standard windshield I may opt to replace it with the cheaper standard glass then the Z specific glass. I have also read it is more impact resistant?

Thanks

If you don't tell, I will do a test on 2 vettes with diff windshields. I have about 6 bricks in back yard. Anyone need to return a favor to anyone?? Happy to oblige.

By the way, do you guys realize that it was almost impossible to put a brick thru a Chrysler windshield in the 50s and 60s?

True. Other brands failed after one shot. Not Chrysler products. If a crane picked up a Chrysler at a junk yard, windshield remained intact. If it picked up any other brand, windshield failed.

Put that in your intellectual crap, er scrap, bag.

Please make sure to get Z06 glass. It may not be important to you but IMO if I had bought my Z06 and it didn't have the OEM glass piece I would have been pissed.

When I needed to replace my windshiled I had to argue with them for a couple days to get them to replace it with a Z06 glass which was nearly $1k more than the standard glass.
