Nope.... ram air does not exist at any speed a sports car travels. You make more power from colder denser air allowing the engine to advance timing.
Trust me
Yeah, I worded incorrectly there... you'll get more fresh air flow to the intake inlet from under the car than you will from sitting on top of the shroud and getting air from the front screens... no boost or ram air effect...
Keep in mind if you get caught in a down pour, you can potentially draw water into your intake. The only way to "pop" a piston besides water is nitrous. I have seen too many engine kill stories about bottom feed air systems sucking up water.

Thats some serious ****! Never thought about that happening

I live in Seattle and drive in rain for about 8 months straight, deep enough to hydroplane in regularly, and have attacked large puddles just for fun on multiple occasions - never had a problem with my Honker nor did I have any issues with the VaraRam I had installed...

Don't read into this too deep, you need 2+ inches on the road & traveling fast enough to suck it up.......like nrunning into a deep puddle on the interstate.......

also you are going to have to funnel enough water directly into the intake that the vacume from the motor can pull it through the filter and into the motor without bogging the motor down first from lack of air - and if you go through a huge puddle and feel the motor bogging but keep on pushing... here's your sign...
I've been on this forum quite a long time. The very 1st intake I had was a very sweet looking carbon fiber twin flow. I went on my 1st corvette cruise and what do you know a check engine light that kept coming back. Sold the intake switched to a Vortex and it never came back. Just my opinion and experiance.
Several members running aftermarket intakes that aren't true CAIs have cut holes in their radiator shroud to get extra cold air to the filter. Another thought might be to construct a heat shield out of ABS, Plexi or sheet metal so the intakes ONLY get colr air from the radiator area.
Buy a Vararam. It's a pain to install but it the best intake you can buy. None of the other intakes can boost your HP 35 to 40 HP for about $300. If you don't want to spend the money then just get the ebay $49 and be done with it. Good luck with what ever you choose.

I've got some ocean front property to sell you.... it's in the middle of Ohio, but it's awesome.
If you understood the physics of how a CAI works then you wouldn't be so enamored by the marketing claims of the Vararam.
I bought a carbon fiber bridge because I like the way it looks! Replaced the air filter with a K&N type filter....don't remember the name but I know its green in color. Sorry but everything seems to be just fine cruisin down the Parkway to the shore!

I went from stock to VaraRam and wished that I hadn't, then went to a Honker and don't think there is a higher quality more functional product out there...
... 35-40 HP from an air intake? Please lets be realistic here...
