Default Gear question?

I'm considering sticking my toe in the shallow end of the mod pool. Perhaps a Halltech intake, LG long tube headers, DTE (3:90 or 4:10) pumpkin and a tune? Or, as long as the checkbook is out I may jump in head first and go the ProCharger route! These will all be installed by a trusted professional.

My semi-newbie question is, do taller gears actually make the car faster/quicker? All (other) things equal would a 3:90-4:10 car make it across the finish line before one with a stock Z06 ratio? Does this cause more "from a dead stop" wheelspin? This is more than just a gratifying seat of the pants thing isn't it?

Would I be better off leaving the stock Z06 ratio if I do plan to go forced induction? Is talking seriously about mods the first symptom of the disease???

Default Lower Gear is quicker not always Faster.

Get on a Multispeed bike and try to take of from a dead stop in the highest gear, then see how fast the Bicycle will go (top speed) in the lowest gear. Not quite the same as a car but you get the Idea!
All gearing is a compromise between speed, engine wear, mileage so it depends on how you will be using the car.
As to your last question the answer is LEAVE IT STOCK, if you start with the mods it will be an ever increasing disease.

Get the tune, and headers.

Unless you are considering staying with the mod fever this is all you'll need to have both SOP and performance improvements.

Hello from Schaumburg just down the road from you If you are planning to add Forced Induction at all in the future, leave your stock Z06 gears..if you upgrade to 390's even, with a supercharger 1st and 2nd gear will be pretty much uselsess (hell even with the stock gears you'll be smoking the tires with forced induction)

If you decide not to go the supercharger route, then adding 390's will be plenty of gear...especially since with the Z06 the M12 tranny already makes 1st gear like a 390 anyway, even with teh stock 342's.
I personally would advise against doing 410 gears unless you just plan on using the car at the drag strip... a majority of the folks here will tell you to just go with 410's... but I am in the minority here on that.

Yes, gears will make the car feel quicker and will improve your times at the track if you can drive the car to it's level of performance.

Feel free to PM me sometime if you ever want to meet up sometime to discuss. My car will be going to sleep for the winter soon I have 390's in My 6 speed coupe and love them.

oh, yes if you are talking this serious about mods...you might as well give up now and get your check book ready...your infected and there aint no cure
