Default Tire Cost

I am due for new tires in the next month or so. I currently have the GS-D3s on my '02 vert and I love them. I drove last winter in freezing weather with no problem (I really took it easy) and I'd like to go back with them again.

I have been considering the Pilot Sports because of the all weather rating.

Recently I was quoted $1,750 out the door at a tire dealer! Yesterday while getting the oil changed in my wife's GMC Denali I looked at some dealer literature that claims they will meet or beat any advertised price.

I had them price the GS-D3s and the Pilots. In both cases I can buy the tires and go out the door for less than $1,200.

Was the tire dealer out of his mind asking $1,750?

No...they can ASK anything they want. IMHO the only one that would be out of thier mind would be the one that payed the $1700!

If you can get the same tires for $1200 instead of $1750, it should be pretty obvious that the higher priced dealer is . Go with the better price and have more money for mods later on.

Do you get kissed while you were bent over.

I had set of GS-D3s delivered to Canada a few years back and it cost me $1100 US and that included shipping, broker fees and Canadian taxes.

I just priced the tires at Tirerack.com and the cost is $960 plus shipping. The stock sizes are $192 each for the fronts and $288 each for the rears.

Tirerack is a little cheaper per wheel but you can't beat the free shipping

Thanks Army2000. I have checked out the TireRack before an tey have great prices. I was just surprised that a dealership could come in at under $1,200. Once I paid for shipping and mounting for the TireRack tires the dealer would only be about $100 more.

Kind of like you and I selling a pass car. I have one advertised for $18k, but I will take $14,500. We all do it.

I just got a set of GY F1 Supercar tires for my 2004 Z06 at Discount Tire and they matched the Tire Rack price, with no shipping charges.
About $1300 mounted and balanced.

Thanks Dean. I really love the GS-D3s but I drive mine every day and that includes below freezing and the D3s are not rated to freezing so I am considering the Pilots. Any downside to them?

Discount Tire has great prices right now. I purchased 4 new Michelin Run Flats for $980 out the door. Plus I will get $40 back in rebates.
