I want a C5 soooo badly!

Just throwing that out there.

Also, is around $15,000 to $18,000 a reasonable price range to be looking for a not super high miles hardtop with a 6 speed? I'm considering selling my 81 in the spring and gathering up some extra $$ for a C5.

I gotta sell the 81, man. I'm only 17 and it's my daily driver (minus winter). It's just not practical. I want modern performance, handling and reliability, plus better gas mileage, and I also want something that isn't quite so outlandish. I've actually got my dad convinced to let me do it. He doesn't like the idea, but he said it's my car, so do whatever I want with it.

I think $15-$18k will buy a nice sub-70,000mi car.

Don't know what kind of car you'd get for the lower end of your price range, but for $18K to $20K, you should be able to find a nice FRC with not a ton of miles on it. Good luck with your search.

Yes! I got my '98 for $17,000 with 78,000 miles on the clock!

I've seen some '98 and '97s for around $15,000 and in good shape too!

I'd drop the C3 as well and upgrade to a C5 you'll love it!

Thanks,Matt

Good luck and during the winter prices usually fall as Vette sales taper off

Once you get that C5 you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Good luck on your hunt. And thank your dad .

Hi guitarcrazy02 -

I think you can find a decent example for that kind of money - expect the high end of that range.

By 1981, C3's were pretty good cars, but I think you will be pleased with the improvements in the C5.

Take your time and you will find the right car.

If you are at all handy with a wrench, C5's are easy to work on and parts are plentiful.

You are in the catbird seat - you have a beautiful Vette, so the worst you could do is keep that one!

best regards -

Been there....done that.
Had a 76 since 77.
In mint shape....but I like to do the corvette shows.
Put an OverDrive tranny in it. (200 4R)
Put 10k miles on it in 2 years.
Drove it to Bowling Green one year, South Dakota the next.
Decided, if I was still going to take it, it would have to be on a trailer.
I don't do trailers....the cars are for driving.
So....I got a Z16 in April this year....wow !!!!
I love the C3s.....just could not afford to have 2 vettes.
Good luck with your search.

I'm 22 and I bought my 1999 C5 Red for around 21K with a 2 year warrenty (70K miles, z51, 12 disc, torch red/creme female doctor 1 owner, all service records, new tires, chrome 04 rims, auto, coupe)

Thats the ball park range, but how much for the C3?
