My 04 has just started leaking at the all too common left seal on the rear end.
What is the most important part of this fix to ensure it is done correctly, the proper sealant?
Obviously the seal/O ring is replaced, but I would prefer to just have this done once.

Just find a shop or dealer that has a good reputation for working on these cars. Check and see if they have replaced the seal before and see if you can speak with the car owner to see how it has held up.

Also If your out of warranty, I would make sure that they guarantee their work. Mine had to go back 4 times over a 3 year period before they got it.
Make sure you go to someone who is very used to working on Vettes and knows about this problem and how common it is. If you had a reputable dealer nearby, they at least has fixed this many, many times.
I had to take mine back a second time because the housing had some very small hairline cracks in it causing it to still leak a little. Good luck!
