Default Need help with temperature...................

Hi, I had my fans turned on at 180 degrees from a tune. Now, after the car is running for 10 minutes the fan kicks on. Is this normal?

I'm not sure if my car is operating at the normal temperature and should get it looked at. What is the normal temperature for a C5 under normal driving condition (to work and back 30 minutes)? I looked at the radiator and nothing is blocking it! Would a coolant flush help? All info is appreciated!

Thanks,
TonyP.

My stock C5 runs just shy of 200 hiway and 220 city in hot weather. I guess if the fans came on at 180 they'd be on most of the time. If yours is running hot, check for trash between the rad and condenser. That seems to be a common problem. HTH

Mine runs around 195-205 during most trips. If you have your fans set to come on at 180 I am sure they will be on most of the time and that isn't a good thing.

195 - 200 freeway driving in the summer.

210 - 220 city driving, stop and go.

Did you change the thermostat to a lower temp, too, or did you just lower fan temps?

And, they do NOT run all the time. Once you reach a certain speed they automatically turn off. You're probably only noticing them turn on when you turn the car on when the car is still hot.

Try it in the morning, and you'll hear them come on, then turn back off after awhile, because the car should still be fairly cold (although warmed up).

With all that said, when you drive down the freeway, what temp does your car want to be at? Remember, no fans at freeway speeds, so what you see when on the freeway for awhile is pure mechanics, based on ambient temps and what temperature your thermostat is set to open at.

Once you see the temp your car likes, then you can program the fans to come on at a few degres over that, to try and keep temps when not on the freeway close to what your car naturally likes.

I run a 160 thermostat. On the freeway, my car is usually between 178 - 180. Thus, I have my fans programmed to start coming on at 183.

Default Temp info...

Thanks for all the info. I will see if Englandgreen can turn the fans back to stock. I didn't think this was a good thing for the fans to come on pretty much all of the time. I don't know if a thermostat is what I need or not. Mine is just a daily driver. Thanks again everyone!

Thanks,
TonyP.
