Default Trunk Partitioner

Has anyone thought of making these themselves? I like the one mentioned on this site for $240 with tray. This seems a little steep for me and I think I could make them for way less. Does anyone have plans with dimensions?
When I get the time I will look into making these and if I do make one I will give pictures and diagrams.

Yes. Do a search. It's old news... There is an Autocad file of the dimensions around here somewhere.

You gotta do this yourself. I just did one recently and couldn't be happier with it. Total cost was about $20. I have the template, shoot me a pm and I will email it and answer any questions for you.

Did you use MDF? What did you cover it in? I'd be curious to see pictures of it out of the car if you have any. I love to see DIY projects like this. Especially when you see the real cost to make these things. No Corvette Tax on the DIY version huh

Alright here's what I did on the first Prototype I made.

Went to Home Depot and bought a 4X8 sheet of Owens Corning Building insulation. Felt almost like styrafoam for $8. You definetly don't need a sheet this big, I could have made 5 templates with this one piece. Also bought 3M spray adhesive for $5.

Went to Pep Boys and got a 3x6 roll of black interior carpet for $12.

Traced the template onto a piece of cardboard and massaged alittle to get the exact fit I wanted. Traced it on the piece of insulation and cut out with a box cutter. Spray glued the carpet on and trimmed.

I have the SLP Loudmouths on my car and the drone was horrible, after the partition it took most of the drone out. I figured I could get it better so I made another one out of half inch plywood and covered it. The plywood is alittle heavier but it really took out all of the exhaust/road noise and made my stereo sound better.

Hope this all makes sense, I definetly recommend using plywood. If anybody wants the template or to see pics, send me an email. I know my spelling and grammar is horrible, in a hurry to get back to work.

I was going to build one until I saw the $50 foam partitions on ebay. It's a little tough to get it in place without any wrinkles in the fabric (it's built oversized and squeezes in place) but it gets the job done and I can just knock it down if I need to carry tires or anything large in the trunk...

Yes, I had it printed at Kinkos. Here are some pics, well hopefully this is the first time I have tried to post pics.

I really need to get a vac back there in the trunk. As you can see the color match on the carpet isn't perfect. It really isn't that drastic the camera makes it look alot worse than it is.

Thanks for the compliment. I have been getting flooded with requests for the template. We had better start seeing some new templates on Monday!

I really want to do another but be able to do something with lettering in the middle. Anybody got any ideas?

Couldn't you just cut out some sort of stencil and paint over it in the middle of the partition?

Excellent job buddy

I have the one from Ecklers that used to sell for like $90. it's just high density foam and compression fit. Easily moved around and does reasonably well at cutting down noise from the trunk and heating/cooling the car. Now I have a set of Corsa's I want more insulation on the street. I'll take mine and just cut some plywood to shape and stick them together.

The cheap one from Ecklers has CORVETTE stitched on it in red. So it doesn't look completely bland. Now you can get it with the Z06 and/or C5 logo.

I think I remember seeing pictures of someone who had had embossed (or debossed) the Corvette letters or logo on one once???

Here's an option...I bought this one for $99....it has a plexiglass center insert...I just added the Commemorative emblem after toying around with the idea of putting vinyl "Corvette" letters in the space....probably not impossible to DIY

Default DIY partition

I've done two partitions for both my wife's FRC and my '01 Z06. I used 2" styrefoam board on her's and 2"foil backed polystyrene sheet on mine. No cost to me since I had both on hand but 2" polystyrene costs about $25 for 4x8 sheet.

Got (9) nine yards of very close matching black leather on E Bay for $36 dollars shipped.

Purchased two silver decals (my Z06 is a QS) that is just the outline Z06 logo with no backround ( they measure 4"x24") for $9 shipped from Ebay. The decal maker said he could would make the decal any size I wanted ( within reason , I'm sure).

I got some Velcro and sewed to each side of the two sides of the partition and just fitted them together, in case I wanted to add or sutract something later.

Great fun and didn't cost much . You can't tell that it's not OEM. I'd try to do photos and the decal manufacturer's website but I'm not home on my own computer.
