Just wanted to clean up the break calipers without painting or coating. On past non-car projects I could make cast alum. pieces look good by taking a 4" round wire brush on a drill, and bearing down rather hard, I could get the alum to look not mirror bright but still pretty good. Has anyone tried this? any pics? I'm considering trying it, then painting the letters red. I've got a black car.
Do your calipers have a greyish finish to them...kind of a dull looking grey powder coating?
I don't recall seeing any C5 Corvettes in natural cast aluminum. You could wire brush them, but you may not be able to remove all of the paint. The paint that does get removed will allow the aluminum to oxidize quicker though.
Painting them with the DUPLICOLOR brush on kits (AUTOZONE) is really simple to do.
Well, I thought they were just bare alum finish not a gray powder coating, but if they are a powder coating, then I guess I should not go wire brushing on it.
I removed my calipers/brackets and used a buffer with an abrasive wire metal wheel to take out imperfections and smooth them before they were powdercoated. They turned out semi polished I think it would look good installed just like that and be easier to clean.
