Did I read that right. He was clocked doing 140, and he was charged with doing 21 over the speed limit...wow, where is this road that has a speed limit of 119!! Even 100mph speed limit would be nice! I'm not greedy!

The 21 MPH over the speed limit charge is probably for Reckless Driving. The 21 probably means he was exceeding the posted speed by more than 20 MPH therefore constituting reckless driving vice an actual speeding ticket. Much heftier charge, carries a lot more weight in court than speeding. He better have a really good lawyer. Luckily no one was killed or hurt badly. He should be charged with attempted homicide. To me no different driving like that than recklessly shooting a gun at somebody and missing. Hope he's not a Forum member. What a dope! Gives Corvette drivers a bad name.

That's right. In Illinois, anything over 20mph above posted limit is reckless driving and is the "judge's discretion" on the sentence. If it goes to a jury trial, the judge can recommend the sentence.
I agree that the dumba$$ deserves everything he gets. Hope he gets a judge that thinks so, too.

I am by no means condoning his excessive speed, but how many of us are spirited drivers and have a heavy foot have been at least 20 over.
If you think a drunken trip to 140mph is "spirited driving" then you need to rethink driving at all. No one's busting the guy for 20 over, just stating the law (and the risk). I'd say he deserves everything he has coming. Unfortunatley he will probably NOT get jail time andhe has already proven he doesn't mind driving on a revoked license.

And who here has done 140 on surface streets? I have never felt that spirited or had ***** big enough to even think about that maneuver, and I got some pretty big *****.

I was thinking the same thing except the article says 21 over and then 31 over maybe the writer was not so good in math =)

There's one in every crowd. Let's hope he's it. The only thing I didn't think sounded good was I think he was being chased. (140? High speed chase) In this modern world of technology I'd rather see incidents like this ended differently.
