Default Close call!!!

Last night, I picked the wife up after work and we went for a cruise. Well about 20 minutes after driving a hopped up eagle talon started pacing me in the other lane. Usually, I wouldnt waste my time but tonight I felt froggy. Not to mention the guy and his girl kept launching and taunting me. We were at a light together then I gunned it to about the speed limit and left him but then the worst thing happened. The flashing lights came on. At first, I thought he would just pull over the talon but the police officer told him to follow me and we both got pulled over. He asked if there was any reason we was racing but after the longest wait of my life he came back and said he could give us both tickets for wreckless driving (which would ruin me in the air force ). The most awesome police officer said if I was going to race just do it outside of town on the vast waste land that is Wyoming. He said he would hate to see a beautiful car get wrapped around a pole or worse another car.

I have learned my lesson you cant do anything in a MY Z06 without drawing attention.

Please drive safe and race on abandoned roads!!

I know the temptation, happens all the time, but you really need to kick up your self control, when the ricers want to play.

It's nice when an officer "understands" the situation.
If you hadn't let off he probably would have sited you.

In my town there is a Black unmarked Charger SRT8 with blacked out windows that does the same thing the Eagle was was doing to you, and if you go for it.......BAM!!! It's a ticket for drag racing...

You are VERY lucky. Most cops would cite you. And a street racing ticket is one you do not want. Here in Arizona, it's an 8 point criminal offense that includes a suspended license. Bad times.

On a side note, racing a DSM from a stop to the speed limit is asking to get beat. Your traction limited and he's not. I think you got lucky twice in a short amount of time.

Years back when I was driving my NEW 1970 GTO ..how about that, 400 CI , 350 HP, 4 speed Car, I was cruising Rt -1 in Fairfield Ct and some guy in some sort of a Dodge something or other taunted me at a light, he took off, I kinda just went normal, maybe a bit more than normal but certainly not racing and no tire squeal.

I got pulled over and was given a written warning for aggressive driving.

The cop told me my buddy got a way but I didn't. I attempted to tell him I didn't even know the guy...He gave me the Sienfeld look and the rest is history .

That was the start and the end of my Street racing career...

one never knows....

With my responsibilities in the military this citation would have taken my license away on base and tons of paper work (all bad) and possible job hindrance. GLAD he could understand my lapse of judgment.

I thought it was illegal for a cop to try to "promote" you into a race ?

Then charge you for it ? Seems dangerious for a cop to do that.

I am sure you meant "race tracks," not abandoned roads. Other people can be on those roads.

Glad your military service saved your neck.

Keep thinking 'race track; not public roads.'

Sounds like entrapment to me. You were just trying to get away from a dangerous driver.

Yea, Right!!!

80% of the police in my area are apparently above the law, or believe that laws are meant for civilians.
One of my ex-girlfriends father is a lieutenant and has a fully functional slot machine in his living room that takes quarters not tokens. This is very illegal here in the greedy state of MO.

And as far as entrapment goes..............it doesn't exist anymore.
The only part of entrapment that is still in effect is that an officer cannot increase or decrease the value of property, drugs, or money for the purposes of obtaining a higher sentence in a conviction. (ie; they can't sell you a truck load of drugs, or a stolen car for $1.00)

We just had a local cop get suspended, and then fired after making national news for threatening a teenager while the kid had a video camera going in his car, and about a month later the mayor was arrested on a drug charge.

Don't get me wrong there are some pretty decent cops around here, but they aren't the ones you hear about.............probably because they are put behind the desks for not making the municipalities enough money.......

I followed that story and while the kid seemed to ask for it by driving around looking to get pulled over with a camera in his car, that cop was WAY out of line and I'm glad he got fired for his actions. who knows how many people he "made up charges" for over the years.

Cops around the Bay here are very careful about how they proceed with tickets. When it comes to a situation like entrapment, you'll win 99% of the time, and with automated-enforcement tickets, 100% of the time. But when they get you by the cajones here, man, do they get you.

what do you do in the military? I can't see how that would cost you a job etc. since unless you tell them they don't know and at most your boss might lecture you. That is my experience and I am retired Air Force. However, you are right, drive prudent and avoid the hassle/potential base trouble.
