I been thinking of gettin a cam on my car but before i have to ask what are the advantages and disadvantages of getting one, i was actually thinking of getting the G5X3 or maybe the MS3, if you have one plz post your point of view and experience, thnx in advance
MS3 and G5X3 are both top end cams. Should make around 425-435 cam only with these and LT's.
Both drive great on the street no problem and yank like hell above 4000. You may lose a little bit of torque but the gearing and weight of the Z makes up for it.
I think that the G5X3 is also ground with 4* advance in it so it may make a little more torque than the MS3.
Check out the MS4. It will make more torque than the MS3 and same or better topend. 440-450 is not impossible cam only with the MS4.
Always best to go custom ground if you want something specific. Otherwise all these are fine choices and proven power makers.
I had the MS4 in my 2000 SS and I loved it. Car had alot of top end and I compensated the loss of low end with a set of 4:30's. With a stock LS1 intake and UN-ported TB, the camaro went 11.9's at 118 all day. I will be getting a cam for my 01 Z06 in jan/feb and I am more than likely going with the MS4 again. Just think about what your gonna do before you do it.
I went with TSP's 233/239, which is essentially one step below their MS3. It made 433rwhp/400rwtq... cam only '01 Z06, TSP headers, bolt-ons, etc.
I personally wouldn't want anything 'bigger' for a "cam only Z" unless adding more rear gear.
You can really feel it come on around 3,000 RPM.
low end loss, part throttle low rpm surging/bucking often faint but present, fuel economy loss. Requires a computer reflash if properly best driveability is desired.
Never had a z06 cam but have had 5.0 mustang and LT1 cams, theory is the same.

I got the G5x3 cam with ported ls6 heads, lg pros, and powerbond pulley making 450/411. I daily drive my car and its very close to stock, and i can cruise at 50 mph in 6th with no problem. Just has some bucking while driving under 1000 rpms in parkinglots, but i am getting used to working the clutch to where it almost never happens unless its cold.
Get ready to change your stock clutch soon, because i can feel mine going down hill becasue can't handle the extra power, o well tex 0z700 is probably going in soon.
