Default Door noises/squeaking

I've been trying to reduce the amount of annoying squeaking coming from the driver door on my '04 Z06. Ended up pulling out the large styrofoam piece so I could put padding (velcro tape) in various areas. Things seem much quieter after putting the padding in key locations, along with removing the styrofoam. At this point, I'm not sure how much can be attributed to removing the styrofoam, but that thing seems like it's bound to cause noise sooner or later. A couple of questions for you guys -

1. Has anyone removed that styrofoam for good? The top rear plastic on the door doesn't have a whole lot of support without it, but other than that it doesn't seem extremely useful. Sound-wise, I'm sure I could get better results with some other sound-dampening product instead of the styrofoam.

2. For anyone who has removed and re-installed the styrofoam, what adhesive should be used? The original stuff that was used looks like black squares of some urethane adhesive maybe...

I see you are **** about sound as I am. The styrofoam made a high pitched squeak every time I put my arm on the armrest. So I pulled the door panel off and coated the styrofoam with duct tape. I didn't know where it would rub so I coated the whole thing.
I put the door panel back on and the squeaking was gone. Then I noticed a lower pitched noise when I pushed against the door panel.
This noise was actually coming from the door panel rubbing against the metal door. On the drivers side bottom left corner of the door panel I could see the door panel sliding against the door ever so slightly as I pushed in on the panel. I lubed it with silicone and the noise was gone!

Later on, in order to reduce road noise I put 2 layers of FrostKing on the metal outer door panel and some on the plastic parts of the interior panel which weren't covered by styrofoam. It actually cut down on the noise of the power window motor too.

Good luck.

Yeah, I've actually already put a thin strip of velcro all the way around on the outer edge of the painted surface, to avoid that contact with the vinyl/leather/whatever. Figured it would be more permanent than lubing it, as you did.

It sounds like you took off the styrofoam and put it back on, what adhesive did you use to re-attach it? Or was the original adhesive still in decent enough shape to just re-use?

I didn't remove the styrofoam. I just covered the styrofoam that is visible in duct tape.
Now if I could only get the rest of the noises out of the car.
I hate noise.
