WRX vs 97 Coupe!
A friend of mine had a WRX non sti But i believe every possbile engine mod (turbo, blowoff valve, etc.) but nitrous my 97 is stock who would win in a battle to 60 and 100! Just curious havent raced him yet.

I'm going to throw my .02 and say you'll take him regardless. If its just a turbo and BOV then he's toast. more than half the guys in these cars down at the strip can't launch the car for crap and run mid 14's to 15 flat (an sti... not wrx). the best wrx i've ever seen run was probably 15's or upper 14's. Work on launching your car and you'll take him... Especially if he is new to his car.

Personally, I would not take any modded WRX lightly, regardless if its a non-STI. Like the 03-04 Cobras, these cars also respond fairly well to light mods. Not to say he'll blow your doors off by any means. Heck, you might beat him easily. Just don't go into this one thinking you've got it in the bag.
Oh, and not that it needs to be said, but take it to the track!

Stock WRX is 227HP, and the blow off valve adds nothing to that. It just helps to keep the turbo from loosing it boost fast. I think, with equal drivers, the 97 Vette would eat his lunch, easy.

You all need to race more. The WRX cars are no joke. They are all wheel drive and they haul ***. HP plays a small factor in this comparison. If your stock and you get one in the turns, he will smoke you.
On a straight away, if your car is stock, your going to wonder why he is still next to you.
From a dead stop stock vs. stock, the vette will get taken 1st thru 2nd. If you drive well, you will be able to catch him thru the 1/4. The WRX with 300hp, all wheel drive and a decent driver with do the 1/4 in .10 slower than a GTO.
In CA, WRX's with minor mods are in low 13's, high 12's at Fontanna.

If he's really done "every possible engine mod" you got no shot until around 100mph. My stock Subie was quicker than my 'vette to 60mph on dry pavement.
He does have a good shot of blowing up his drivetrain though if he really does launch it hard. I've seen it happen. For this reason most launch quite a bit more conservatively than you might expect. That's why you see those 14's.

If the car does have every mod possible for the engine, I wouldn't waste my gas on him, because he is going to beat you from a dig and I think you will even be trying pretty hard after first and second to catch him, because they are pretty quick little cars. Especially if your car is stock.
I like the parking next to him comment, the VETTE is one sexy b&%$h.

Had an STI pull up to me on the highway at about 50 mph. I just dropped the gear and left him. A standing start though is another question. All these turboed 4 bangers are no joke.

I've had more people in turbo 4's want to race than big v8's and all the turbo 4's do better than the 8's
There is a guy I run into on the way to work, STi, has to have work done, he hangs all the way upto twice the speed limit.
SRT4 same thing...the only time I'll beat him is from a dead dig, I have way more traction otherwise we're dead even until north of 130 where he just runs out of motor.

I would say your *** would be toasted i danced with one a while back when I was in Mexico from 60 to 130 and I had 150 shot of dope, cold air and longtubes and I was pulled like 5 cars. Trust me you wont catch him down unless your going past 150mph. For a quick run no chance time for more mods brother

Being an owner of all 3 cars (wrx, sti and now a vette), the wrx might have you off the line if he can launch @ 6000rpm, slip drop! Takes practice and *****, but it will yield 1.67 ~ 1.75 60' foot times! The Sti is a no brainer off the line, just dump @ 6000 rpm. It's built for it! My best time stock on the STi was 0 - 60 in 4.57 secs, 1/4 13.10s. But at 60 to a 100, the C5 vette will toast both of them. The HP you lose with AWD on middle and top end is ridiculous. That's one thing I couldn't stand about them. Any race from a roll, you're in trouble. From the line, it's a different story. Most races don't occur at the lights anymore, it's usually a roll race from some speed, and most likely on the expressways. I'll never forget with my EVO RS (that was a badass car...) I was doing 0 - 60 in 3.8s (it had a Buscher Stage 1 on it), 1/4 mile 12.57. Now, if you don't launch the car right, it's 0 - 60 in the 5's, quarter mile in the 13's somewhere... Well i raced a red C5 6 speed, and smoked him off the line, he was reeling me in at around 100, but then we bothed stopped. He had an exhaust and intake and was doing 12.7s at the track. But from a roll @ 60 to 120, we were neck & neck until 80, then he just walked me. Hope this gives you a better idea...

I can understand tuner cars. The money they put into those toy cars is amazing. Most are young people. Where does the money come from to do all that S**T. As a young man I didn't have money like that and I bought a used C5. If I'm going to spend $60k to $70k on a car it's going to be a C6 ZO6. Nothing like the sound of a V8.
Just my opinion
