U Haul Car Trailer
Have any of you guys put a C5 on a u haul car trailer? Does it fit with no problem? Mine is lowered on stock bolts, so will 2 X 6 boards help raise it up before the ramps to minimize rubbing? Thanks in advance.
I hauled mine on one, but make sure if you rent one, you get one of the newer model trailers. The new trailers have fold away fender wells, so you gan get out of the car. The old ones don't, and you'll find yourself having to climb out the window.
I recently moved my 78 trans am with a uhaul trailer. Even with the fold up fender, I could not open the door. This is something to consider, since the trans am is much taller than my C5.
I sold a '77 Corvette and the guy came with a Uhaul trailer. Luckily the car had Lambo doors and with them it is easy to get in and out without needing to open the door the usual way which in this case wouldn't have worked.
I just asked this question last week. I considered getting one as well. Several guys said to get the newer UHaul alum. trailer and even with the fold out fender, the door will strike it, forcing you to crawl out the back. My car is not lowered and I think it would be almost impossible to get it on or off without scraping the undercarrige. The boards may help. UHaul has a page on loading and unloading on their WEB site. Also, someone told me that if UHaul knows you are moving a Corvette, they may not rent to you.
I chose to drive mine home. Hope some of this helps.
I did this about a month and a half ago, on a 1300km trip + a ferry ride.
Mine is stock height, and JUST made it on the trailer, I also climbed in the window/ hatch a couple times til i realized the side folded out.. and even then id have to lift half my weight so the door wouldnt scrape.
Also the trailer at the front and plates in front of the wheels that stick up to farm they were held in by two bolts on each, i removed them, and also had a 1/2" board under each front wheel.
Other than that, pretty simple.
