Default Glass Top Advice

Hello to all the vette owners on here ! I'm new and this is my first post ! I recently purchased a 2000 C5, and looking to restore a few hiccups the car has. My primary concern is the glass top. All spiderwebbed and the cracks are rather deep, so it's pretty much trashed. Seals well, rubber is still new around it. What is some advice on what to do that won't cost me an arm and a leg ?

Some options.... You can look around on a deal for a good used one,,, buy a new one,, or you can get the one you have painted to match the car..

good question
Mine is fine for 90% but if must have sat in one place for a loooong time. It has a 6" stip of sun 'rash' on the passenger side...its almost too bad the rest is in such good shape.

Wow ! Only 200 ? You have any pics of that ? I might just do that! I saw some new ones for 1100 ~ 1395 ! I saw one for 400, but it has some webbing. My top is perfect (seams, fram...) except for that webbing. I'll look into that around town here and see if someone could pull that off ! Did it affect the tint at all ?

I have both tops, but my glass top has the same problem. 6 inch strip on the passangers side.

I'm going to get brave this winter.. sand the top down with some 1000 grit.. then 2000 wet sand.. Plan on buffing and attempt to re-seal it.. I will post pics as I go.. We will see!!

Try and find a used one at a good price - they do pop up every now and then on the C5 Parts for Sale section. Problem will come in the shipping - seems a few of them get damaged in transit due to packaging problems. Might want to call Gene at the Karshop too to see what kind of price he has on a used top.

There is also a place that will take your frame (glass doesnt matter) and return you a newly refabricated one (effectively new) for about $800 I think. Sorry, I dont have the link( but it shouldnt be too hard to find via Google)..

No matter what you do , don't buy one from Astro Tops
unless you like leaks, bad quality , and poor customer service .

The delamination on the passenger side is a factory option that all of us apparently ordered from GM .

Hold out for a nice factory newer year used top . they pop up every once and a while .I think the issue was resolved in newer years .

I had mine painted black at the local vette shop ($250). Turned out great.

Same here, same price even. Makes the car look better(IMO) and it keeps the sun off you all the time. When I want sun, I pop the top off her.

I see that you are in Sarasota Florida and there is an after market place in Hudson called Davies Corvette store (i think) They had one in there for $400.00. You might want to give them a call. Or take a look at this link.

That little 6" rash on the passenger side is the "nature of the beast"!

Default watch/check Craig's list

picked my glass top up from Craig's list for $275. Top was new but had gotten a "parts backroom" 3" scratch from rough handling by the dealership knuckle draggers. They knew they couldn't sell it, wanted to get something out of it, didn't want to ship, abra cadabra: nice top with minor flaw I can live with for now.

I watch the larger cities where I have family or friends that can act as agents for me (my son got the top for me). Worth considering IMHO
