Default 4.10's owners, question

I am thinking about adding a set of 4.10's but would like to know about what mph you shift at in each gear and what rpm you shift at when at WOT. Thanks.

my rev limiter is set at 6900.65 mph is about 2000 rpm in 6th.as for normal driving, you can shift at any speed you want to.it 4.10 gears is one of the best mods you can do.

Thanks for the answer, but when I say what mph do you shift at I am refering to WOT only. Mainly I want to know about the top of 3rd and 4th.

What exactly does changing gears entail (tranny gears?/differential gears?)? What is an average cost? Is there a need for a re-tune?

Don't know the answer to your other questions!

Don't need a retune for gear swap on a manual tranny C5, that I am positive about. Auto tranny yes M12/M6 tranny no.

You can buy the complete rear end pumpkin set-up with the 4.10 gears in them for around $1,900 and you just swap out your stock rear end pumpkin with the new rear end pumkin that contains the aftermarket gear ration be it 3.73, 3.90 or 4.10.

Will probably cost you at least $750 to $1,000 in labor if you don't do it yourself!

You will need to reprogram the comp for the new gears or your speedo will be off

I would like to know what mph that is at? Or better yet what gear do you go through the traps in? I have little over 500rwhp.

NO, you don't have to do anything on the computer when you put in gears in a manual tranny C5!

I would like to know what mph is the top of each gear, if taken to red line.

Hey Mike, if all you're changing is the gears then you can calculate your shift speeds based on a simple ratio. Take your original rear gear of 3.42 and divide by 4.10 = 0.834. Then to figure out your redline speed for each gear with the 4.10's just multiply your original redline speed by 0.834. For example if you redline 3rd gear at 100 mph now, you will redline at 83.4 mph with 4.10's. If 4th revs out at 140mph you would rev out at 117ph with 4.10's.

Where does the manual C5 speedo measure speed if the gears do not affect it? Must be on the rear axles I assume.

Thanks Bill, I believe there is a sensor on the trans that controlls the speedo and the odometer. I did the calculations and that was about what i got also, but then I asked Richie (02Z w/ 4.10's) and said he thinks his 4th goes all the way to 128ish but couldnt remember exactly.

I'm not sure if the top speed in 4th stock is 140 mph, but if it is you will top out at 117 with 4.10's. The ratio will not lie . Also I just found another post where a guy put 4.10s in his zo6 and said he topped out at 117 mph. If I were you I would do 3.90 gears. That would get you up to around 123 mph in 4th which would probably be better for the strip.

I would agree with the last post, M12 with 4.10's would put you right at 6800 or above in 4th gear. 3.90's would be better, not unless you have your limiter set at 7200 ot higher.

Some food for thought..

The thing is Robert has a complete diff with 4.10 that he bought for the yellow car and decided not to put it in so I think I am going to get it, I rarely go to the strip so that doesnt really matter to me all that much. I think I am going to get it, and if I dont like it I will sell it and get something else. Thanks for the help everyone.
