If you are going to change the whole engine at least concidure changing the block to the below one
GM C5R 7.0 GM Race Block
it goes for 6995.00 but it is worth every penny.
that is what i would do if i had the same issue... BTW if the coolant over heats the only thing that would crack is the heads seal not the block, that is what happened with my Blazer.
Get the LS7 engine if you can. Blocks don't crack, heads do if overheated. I would check the freeze plugs to see if they have been
replaced. Good LucK!!
The dealership usually will not do a tear down. With the amount of money on the line I would move to another shop and do a small tear down. Did you ask how they came to their conclusion ???? Did they see a crack or they think it is cracked from compression test.
Please share this if you know.
Your car has been out of warranty for two plus years and you're "in dispute with the dealership"? What does the dealership have to do with the situation?

A cracked block is very rare...not impossible but rare. There are a lot of us in the GTA who know good places to have C5's checked out...but a word of advice...you should fill out your profile. The local boys like to know who they're dealing with before getting into the nitty gritty. PM me if you have any questions
