Any of you run into this "monster" that lurks inside your PCM? I've read on Z06forum that the PCM can intermittently cut power when it senses "abuse"
during high rpm upshifts, downshifts, etc.
I am really just most concerned as to how often this might be occuring for some of you...especially those who race at the track (drag or open road). To me this is a bogus feature. That's what they make rev-limiters for.
I will say that if mine does this during "spirited" driving (and I don't abuse cars...I've owned, and do own, cars with more power than the Z and I've never busted a trans) it will be on the auction block.
Nope, it's also on the '01's.........................as it happened to me, right after the 500 mile break in.....
Felt like you turned the ignition OFF.
Skid pad #'s down, because of the softer shock valving.....for better cornering & ride, but at the expense of launch, and wheel hop............
Sounds like your talking about "Power Hop Algorithm" with can engage even if T/C is turned off on the 02 cars. Reportedly it will reduce spark and or fuel if it sences axel hop on hard launch. Very good article by Hib Halverson in Jan 02 issue of GM High-Tech Performance is the source of this imfo. Ric
PS, seen that article.......what we are discussing seems to be different........
The condition above, feels like your engine is TURNED off.......it's that radical.......and @ 6000-6300rpm's, that sudden a cutoff is bad news on the senses....not to mention what it does to the perfomance.......
I have not experience the "Torque Management/Power robbing " feature mentioned on z06vette.com. I'm not going to say its not there, but I just haven't experienced it. I have autox'ed, drag raced, hit the rev limiter, and showed off spinning the tires while getting sideways on the streets in my Z06 with no power loss except for the couple of times my traction control was on and the rear tires started to spin. I wouldn't worry about this too much. BTW, I'm not the average vette owner at 28 yrs old. I will push the limit of the car, well almost. :)
I've never run into this "feature" on my '01. While I've never missed a shift, I have run the car to redline a few times ;) and never encoutered the phenomenon.
Brian, the '02 does..........it is not as choppy a ride to hear the guru's tell it........at least that's what Hib said..............
But, the '01's have an advantage IN the straight line runs..........
