Driving along when i hear/ feel a slight vibration...felt like clutch/ drivetrain thing....drive about 8 miles... it's getting a bit louder...long story short...i pulled into my driveway & left rear tire was dismounted! incredible....can't even feel a flat in these cars! ran my finger around inside & outside edges of rim...totally smooth...guess it never made contact with street...gotta feeling the dismount happened when i turned into driveway....no damage to body or underside of car either...but i think the tire is toast (sidewall crushed...smelled like burning rubber when i pulled in...& powdery rubber inside tire). anyway...questions...
1) best place to buy new tire...Goodyear Gemini...or dealer?
2) do i need to buy a pair of rears? (8,500 miles on tread...the other tires are perfectly good)
3) Should i have the rim checked anyway?
Thanks!
I'm not an expert the topic, but, here is what I think.
1. The best place to buy the tire is going to be someone like discount tire or tire rack.
2. I think you wiil be just fine replacing the one tire, but, it would not hurt to change both rears.
3. When they mount the new tire they should be able to tell you if the rim is OK.
Sorry about the bad luck. I am glad that Z16 is doing alright! Good luck!
Unless you have abnormal wear on the other tire, you should have no problem replacing just the damaged tire. I rotated tires onto my car with 6,000 to 7,000 miles difference to use a spare wheel and tire, and had no problems.
Definitely replace the tire if you ran it very long with no air and the full weight of the car on it. Just consider yourself lucky there was no wheel damage.
