Default So, How did I do...

This evening a fellow corvette club member and I went to Desert Thunder Raceway (1/8 mile track). He has ran the track a couple of times before, this was my first time running on any type of track.

He has a 2002 C5 M6 coupe, mods include: K&N filter with high flow air duct and coupler, LS6 TB, MDS coil packs, Headers, X pipe with high flow cats, and Magnaflow exhaust, I think he had BF Goodwrench non run flats (I do know it was non run flats, just not sure about the brand).

I have a 1999 C5 A4 convertible Z51, mods include: Blackwing, Bassani X pipe, and Borla stingers, Goodyear Eagle F1 run flats.

We split the six races with both of us red lighting once.

Tossing out my red light; here is my average for the other five races:

Avg Reaction: .2660
Avg 60': 2.2370
Avg 330': 6.1067
Avg 1/8 mile: 9.2104
Avg MPH: 80.114

The difference from highest and lowest:

Dif Reaction: .2719
Dif 60': .1123
Dif 330': .1319
Dif 1/8 Mile: .1768
Dif MPH: 1.06

So, how did I do? Be honest, if my driving sucked I want to know.

I don't think red lighting it will make it not count as far as your time. It just means it wouldn't be a legal record in rule books but still counts as far as how fast you are. The end time is from when you left the starting point, not from when the light went green.

I have a similar setup on my 1999 Z51. Mods include; x-pipe, catback exhaust and dual cone intake. My best was as follows:

R/T ... .039
60' ... 2.179
330 ... 5.94
1/8 ... 8.992
mph ... 81.72
1/4 ... 13.77
mph ... 102.34

Being that it was your first time that's not bad. But with some practice you sould be able to get a little better times. Even the times mentioned above for me were when everyone seemed to be running about .3 slower then normal because it was extremly humid, basically drizzeling. So great job for a first time. Get some more runs in and see what you can do.

As long as you had fun that's what counts.

When I red lighted, I did not stay in it. That is why I tossed out those times. I did have a great time! Wow, a R/T of .039 that is awesome. My best R/T was .1457. I red lighted by a -.0598. My worst R/T was a .4620 which probably threw out my average a bit. On that run, I had a passenger that wanted to ride with me. Once she got into the car she started talking about how she didn't like sitting so low to the ground and how small the cabin was. She is used to her SUV so it was making her a bit claustrophobic. Not to mention about me being safe because she has two kids that she needed to go home to. So that did make me a little nervous and distracted me.

the .039 is rare for me. Most mine were between .14_ - .65_. My average would probably be around .4__ also. It's awesome when you get something real low for the R/T though. I think my only lowest was a .029 a year or so ago. You gotta play with when to launch the car. When the third yellow light comes on, a beat after the third yellow comes on, etc. You should try a 1/4 track sometime too. I did a 1/8 track once. It was ok but I still like the 1/4 track better. And the 1/8 for me was much further away.

It's really not that dangerous, especially with a street car and not some sort of pro drag car. It's just like punching it at a light, maybe staying on it for a few seconds more but really not much more dangerous then that. My mother was like that when I started going to the drag tracks when I was 18. She thought I would kill my self or something. I'm still here 8 years later though.

Have fun

They let you carry a passenger during a run? I never saw that. Has anyone else?
Your stats seem pretty good for a first timer. Keep it up. The thing I like best about bracket racing is if I lose it's my fault but nothing I couldn't fix or improve next time. It's all about good reaction time and consistency not speed. Great fun though isn't it? I encouraged my kids to run at the track (Englishtown. NJ) for a good safe outlet. (but not with my Vette)

I have seen that at many tracks but sometimes you have to pay for both to be drivers and both will be by the rules like, pants no shorts, correct spec helmet, etc. Of course though you will be adding weight to the car so it might not be your best #s with some extra dead weight, no offense to the passengers.

Bracket racing is great. It's also a good race for automatic trans cars since consistency is the name of the game. Doesn't matter how fast or anything. I've seen 17 sec civics win due to being consistent.

For reference, below is progression of 1/4 runs w/ different mods; keep in mind this is purely non-scientific, non weather corrected runs and that plays a part. 2004 A4 w/ 2:73

(1) 13.779 @ 103.249 - 05/11/2005, 4500 miles
(2) 13.397 @ 103.573 - 09/07/2005, 8500 miles
(3) 13.301 @ 106.120 - 09/18/2006, 15,000 miles
(4) 12.827 @ 109.330 - 10/15/2007, 20,000 miles

(1) Z06 Airbox
(2) Replace Z06 Airbox w/ Blackwing
(3) LG Pro Headers, Blackwing and tune #1
(4) LG Pro Headers, Callaway Honker, 160 stat tune #2

Desert Thunder Raceway will allow passengers as long as they meet the safety guidlines and pay for admission, they don't have to pay a drivers fee. If I happen to due any more mods and become able to run under a 9 second 1/8 mile I will have to have a roll cage put in due to the fact that my car is a convertible. So, when that day comes I will not be able to run at their track any longer because there is NO way I am putting a roll cage in my vert. I wish I had some pics or video to post of the races but it was a last minute decision to run and I didn't have anyone there with a camera.

So, maybe some pics of my C5 will due:
