I’m getting ready to order LG Street Series LT Headers, cats, and X-pipe. Can anyone give me an idea what I can expect to spend for install? I’m going to start calling places to see what kind of local support I can get…previously my favorite local dealer was my preferred installer. That was until I had them install rotors and lowering bolts; cost me ten hours of labor and they told me I should be happy to get the lower rate of $75 an hour instaed of the $110 Corvette rate. Don’t need any more surprises like that.
Heck just search around the forum for guys in your area. You can probably find someone to come over to help you with a mod day. Beer and pizza would probably be all it would take. I did rotors and lowering on a buddies car a couple weeks ago. 2 hours and we were done. Alls it cost him was a hand shake and a thank you. 10 hours labor for that job is totally ridiculous. Good Luck!
For me at least, installing mods myself is more than half the fun, and i feel twice as proud after I crank her up and hear that sweet note. But again.....that's just me.

2 hours for the front lowering bolts? You must know magic! Needless to say mine took a bit longer...

The problem with dealer shops is that they go by the "book rate" on most work. Basically, there is a big book (in the computer now I would guess) that tells them how many hours a particular job is. It doesn't matter what it actually takes (more or less), they charge you the book rate. So if their mechanic does the job in 5 hours, but the book says 10, you pay for 10 no matter what. Plus, the mechanic gets paid for 10 hours, even if he does it in less. That's why I typically avoid dealers for non-warranty work.
Shop around, as others have suggested. And if you are even half way handy, consider getting some help and doing it yourself. Working on these cars is not that difficult and a heck of a lot of fun. Plus, you'd be surprised what you learn about how your car is put together.
Go over into the Southeast section of the Forum. There is a recommended shop list there and if you ask this question there you will get responses from local owners who have experience with local shops.
Also you will find lot's of activities going on in the Southeast section that will give you the chance to hang out with other owners from your area and get to talk to them first hand. Plus we have one heck of a lot of fun over there in Southeast. The Virginia Rat Pack has something going most every weekend.
10 hours?? I only paid $200 for my header install @ JD Motors in Queens and I was there when the guy did it. As I remember it only took him about 2 hours or so.

2 hours would be pretty impressive for a 2-man crew! I can't imagine one person doing it in that time
Took me all of 9 hours to do mine myself. Not a terribly hard install though.

This was like 7 months ago, I don't remember exactly, but I'd say it was no more than 3 hours..I was right there the whole time (back and forth from the waiting room to the work area)..and not sure if he had one of his other workers help him at certain points but everytime I was out there he was doing it by himself. Of course this is a shop and he had a lift, air tools, etc. It was the actually owner of the shop who did it. He was an asian guy who owned a C6 and does a lot of work on vette's. Nice guy too. So any one in the area, I do recommend him & you can't beat the price.
Youre old dealer is bending you over with those prices! I know you may be worried about doing something wrong to your car, but installs like rotors and lowering bolts arent that bad. They may seem difficult if you're not mechanically inclined, but if you've changed breaks once you can change your rotors too!
As long as you take your time, and read the write ups and how-to's on forums like this and ls1tech you'll do fine I'm sure. Plus you'll have the satisfaction of saying that YOU installed the parts. And...you can keep your wallet lined with more dough to spend on parts in the future.
Look @ this website for your header install before you spend 200-450 on an install.
