Anyone done this? What prep is needed to make the paint stick? While it's off the car during the H/C I was just planning to use rattle can engine paint to dress it up a little.
Wow...looks like no one knows the answer to this after 38 hits. I am pursuing other avenues for this one, if I learn more I'll post it for all of us who are clueless about it.
You can now powder coat the polymer intakes. That wasn't possible a couple of years ago unless the host surface was metal.
There's been some past discussions about the process and some have posted images. Try a search in C5 Tech using keywords "powder coat intake manifold" or "powder coat plastic" or similar.
You might contact KATECH (performance engines) for their suggestions. That's their trademark...painting the intake, valve covers and oil pan in matching body color.
As far as painting with a rattle can, it should be thoroughly cleaned/scuffed and probably a high temperature paint would work.

Here is something that was posted on the forum a while back. Can't vouch for how well it works though.
Any quality catalyzed paint, I use PPG, will withstand about 450 degrees. Non catalyzed, or even high temp, will fade “relatively” quickly. Very expensive, but worth every penny, in my opinion. Use catalyzed primer as well. (Posted by Bill Oxley)
Step one- Get it as clean as you can. Pressure washers work well.
Step two through nine- BULLDOG! Bulldog is an adhesive promoter available at any paint store. This is the most important part of your project. Spray a few coats.
After that you are free to prime, sand, and paint as much as you desire.
There are a few more details than that depending on what kind of finish you are looking for but that should get you started.
I posted a few pics of mine a while back. You should be able to see some if you look through my previous posts in C5 General. Good luck!
