I have driven, but have not owned a C4. It is truly one of the generations I would never own. You have obviously gotten in and out of both, so there is a big issue. Given the pricing, styling, performance, comfort, etc. between the two, the C5 wins by a landslide.
Had a 93 coupe, and now own an 03 coupe. They are worlds apart. One drive in the C5, and I was sold. It is true that the C4 has more of a cockpit feel to it, but it was a pain to get in and out of, it rattled like crazy, the body flexed, the optispark went and cost major$$, it had less power, the top was much more of a pain to remove, and who was the moron who designed the car so that the E-brake was on the left side of the drivers seat so you couldn't engage it, and get out of the car because it was in the way. Oh, by the way, the 93 was a beautiful car to look at, but there is no way I would go back to one, EXCEPT for maybe a mint 96 Grand Sport, but it would be for shows only.
I recently had an 88 C4 z52 vert w/ 46000 miles with the 4+3(mint). A guy hit me and totalled the car. I now am looking real hard at the C5 vert w/ 6-speed. I have test drove an 02, 99, and 98. I was impressed with them. I also drove a 94 w/ LT1 auto, and did not like it. My question is for those out there who have made the switch. Can you give me your perspective and experiences between the two series? I am also looking at a 96 LT4 vert but have not driven an LT4 yet. Thanks
Thanks for the imput, it seems that the extra $ for the C5 will be worth it. This is my biggest consideration, although I think I can make the diff; thanks again-Jim
and who was the moron who designed the car so that the E-brake was on the left side of the drivers seat so you couldn't engage it, and get out of the car because it was in the way.
After engaging the e-brake the handle returns to the down position, you just pull up again to release. Agree on the rattles and flex especially with the top off.
While I loved my '95, I had to mod the Hell out of it to be happy with it.
No.. Wait.. that's just my OCD.
Anyways, I can honestly say the C5 is the car for me. It's got the looks, ride, handling and overall appearing (in every category) that I love about a Vette
i have a 98 c5 and a 84 c4. the c5 is hands down more car but i love to get the 84 out on the highway and crank it up to about 100mph. it has an awsome feel, but again the c5 is for past the c4... still love my c4
I owned an `91 L98, an `92 LT1, and an `96 LT4.
I now own an `98.
LT4 feels just as strong as the LS1
C4`S look dated in my opinion.
C5 WILL KEEP UP FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 5 YEARS!
i owned a 95 coupe a4 and now have a 01 coupe mn6, i love the c5! better handling, better mpg, better performace, easier to get in and out of, and pulls the ladies better! lol. No doubt about it. C5 all the way for me.

I had four C4s (84, 89, 94, 95) and hands down the C5 is a better car. Better fuel efficiency, better ergonomics, better handling, much more room and more power. The only C4 I would be willing to go back to would be a 96 Grand Sport, but with the prices of those these days, that won't be happening.
It really comes down to what you want. The LT4 engine is sweet, and IMO was underrated at 330 hp. The C4s were fun cars and I enjoyed each one, but the C5 is a better all around car.
