Default 411 gears

I am thinking of trading my 342's for 411's. The guy wants $700 plus my 342's. He said he paid $1400. Does not include hardened output shafts.
Does this seem like a fair deal? Seems a little high to me. The millage is about 5k on his, 35k on mine.
Should I do the hardened output shafts? Do I need both sides? I mostly street drive, very little track use. I plan on doing a cam, maybe about 420rwhp. What about a DTE brace?

Thanks, Brian

More than just a little high in my book! Checked Corvette central and they're at about a third of what this guy wants

Not sure about the prices, although if you go with that set-up I would also do the brace and both shafts. You need to install both shafts. I also did the brace while it was apart. Every now and then halfway thru second gear it may jump over a bump or something and it will hop before you know what happened. Thats when I am glad the brace is under there also.

You might want to rethink the 411's if you plan on future mods like H/C. I was in the same boat only thinking 390's, I am 450 at the wheels, and was convinced 390's would be too much gear. I think 411's would be way too steap for a mn12 at 420whp!! Just my .02!!

I'm putting a little more power down then you and i have 4.10's. To get the full potential out of them you need to run a et street tire when tracking the car. On the street i run michelin ps2's and you have to be carefull when accelerating you will smoke your tires in almost every gear. You will also want to raise your rev limiter to 6800 rpms, that will allow you to cross the traps still being in 4th gear, you wont have to shift to 5th gear like most people will tell you.

My thinking was with a cam making big power up top the 411's would be perfect. I think.

that's exactly what my thinking was,and exactly the way i did it.
700.00 for a swap from 3.42's to 4.10's is a good deal in my book.you only need the hardened shaft on the left side.my 4.10's more than made up for lost bottom end from the big cam in my car.

What rear tires are you using for the street?

Nice setup w/good #'s!! I don't see how you get traction, at all w/ ps2's, that is what I have in 19". Traction is very limited in 1,2, and even 3rd when it's cold. When I use nitrous...forget about traction!!

Not the route I would go, the more power you have the less gear you need. I would look at 3:73 to 3:90 and no more, hell, I'd leave the 3:42's. Also is $700 just the gears ang your 3:42 swapped or $700 installed and your old gears?

Thanks, if you just stomp on the gas and power shift 1st through 4th you will just light em up. You basically need to learn how to push the gas pedal in slowly and smoothly like you would do with the brake. Doing that while on street tires you wont have any problem and still kick alot of a222. Put the et streets on it with 12psi and you could stomp on it all the time. my best 60ft was 1.57 that was on et streets, and i believe my best on street tires was a 2.1 60ft at a cruise night at etown. But he 4.10's are a blast and very fun to drive. I also been in a car that has 3.90's and its not much of a differnce between the 2.

The reason 410's work well with a big cam is the cam makes its power up top, you lose power bellow 3k rpms, the 410's will offset that.

(stupid question here, but....) Why would you need hardened output shafts for just a gear change?

You don't need them, just insurance to prevent breakage to your rear. When your new gears are being put in is a good time to put the hardened output shafts. You save on the labor.
