Gimp is one you can download for free. It is quite powerful, and capable. Maybe not quite equal to photoshop in things it can do, but closer than most other things. I must say the user interface is different, and not good in my opinion.

A simpler one with minimal abilities which may still be all you need is the free Photofiltre. A French program available in English version as well.

A google for either of these will turn them up.

Others that are good are Paint Shop Pro, and Ulead Photoimpact. Both are fairly capable, reasonably easy to use, and not terribly expensive.

Me too.

The latest version of Photoshop will cost you over $700! Unless you're a teacher or student and can get a discount.

Most digital cameras nowdays come with photo editing software that will get most people by. You didn't say exactly what you'll be doing with it.

Photoshop is very robust, almost to much to learn, elements will get you a reasonable amount of the editing tools to keep you happy and only cost a fraction of photoshop. my 2cents

There is no equivalent to Adobe Photoshop, however unless your prepared to tackle the learning curve which is huge I would stick with something more suited to the beginner.

Paint Shop Pro, thousands of users and forums, it will do anything for home or small businees needs. Lots of features. I worked in the industry for years as a Printing Manager and our Graphics section used Photoshop. The wife however is an expert home Graphics designer and I am amazed at what she can create with Paint shop pro. I think it is under $100.00

I've been using PhotoShop for over 10 years, am a computer guru, and still haven't mastered it.

Another free, easy to use program is Picasa. You can find it at www.picasa.com.

I use Photoshop 7 but if you are going to buy it, buy the newest one that is out. You can go to Adobe's website to find out that.
