Default Throttle Sensitivity

I have heard people say that powerful cars like the Z06 will lunge if you simply graze the throttle. They say that you don't really need to press on the gas that hard for it to fly. I drive a 04 Z06 and I don't think the throttle is THAT sensitive. I mean if I push it in more than 2/5 then the power comes out but some people make it sound like just softly touching the pedal will make it fly...

I have an 02 Z06 and the throttle is very responsive for what the car should be. It sure does not take much to change the speed going down the road but that is the way it should be.

The throttle "tip in" (the term automakers use for low position throttle response) on the Z06 is actually excessive. It is designed to make people think the car is really powerful. The thinking is that if it is that responsive to a little throttle, if you push it all the way down it is really going to go. The reality is that deeper into the throttle there isn't that much more there.

For racing the car it makes it a lot harder to modulate from power off to power on as you are coming past the apex and that is particularly true in autocrossing where you are in lower gears (like first or second). I would much rather the throttle was more linear, but that doesn't sell cars on test drives as much as quicker tip in.

You can, to some extent get used to it, but a more linear throttle response would be a lot better. I wish it was programmable or tuneable, if it was I would absolutely be tuning that aspect of the car.

It's weird how some lower end cars like the Corolla has sensitive initial throttle but after 30 MPH, it takes some force to get them going. Then you look at cars like the E-class which have around 260 hp and the initial throttle sensitivity is pretty bad and you have to use some force to get it going. I know this because I have both cars in my family.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wished the stock Z06 would have a little more push from a stand-still by just grazing the throttle.

Diifferent manufacturers have different criteria as to how much tip in there is and how it comes in. I suspect that the Merc is much more linear because that is the way tha the Germans would prefer it.

The Japs, on the other hand, don't drive fast in the home country, and they want easy response.

Much like the difference in steering feel, the *** cars tend to have light low speed steering where German cars have big bunches of caster and are heavy at lower speeds but come alive as the speed climbs.

FWIW- you can tune tip-in by changing the TB size- I noticed a marked difference on my 5.0 mustang by going from a 60mm TB to a 75mm.

put the car into competition mode and you'll have a lot less sensitive pedal - it's a night and day difference...
